On Election Day, Jenny Beth Martin takes two minutes on the economy. The Democratic Socialists all opposed the One Big Beautiful Bill, the law that locked in the Trump tax cuts from the first administration. Had they won that fight, tax rates would have jumped. Instead, the average taxpayer has $1,700 more to spend, money they earned and now get to keep.
The results are showing up: median income in this country is the highest it has ever been, and income at the poverty level is the highest it has ever been too, which means people are moving up even at the bottom. She is honest about the rest. The economy is improving, but it is not where anyone wants it to be, and it will take time to grow out of the inflationary period that drove prices up. The fix is growing the economy and growing wages until they catch up with the new level of prices, then growing them further so better jobs, raises, and better terms are within reach.
All of that only happens if the economy keeps improving. If common sense conservatives do not win tonight, every one of those gains is reversed and the rug is pulled out from under us. That is a reason to go vote.
