Maine Addresses Switched Voting Districts & the SAVE America Act's Final Four Days | Sands, Bagshaw

Maine voter rolls: a state lawmaker went door to door in her own district and found apartment buildings that had switched voting districts. The state called it a glitch.
Representative Barbara Bagshaw was knocking on doors in Windham when she noticed that addresses which sat in House District 107 last cycle now appear in her own District 106. She wrote a formal letter to Maine's Secretary of State asking whether it happened anywhere else, whether the rolls will be audited, and whether any standard procedure was followed at all. Meanwhile the United States Senate has four scheduled days before it leaves Washington for the entire month of August, and the SAVE America Act, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, is not on the Majority Leader's calendar. Fifty senators are already on record. Sixty are needed to break a filibuster.
Jenny Beth Martin is joined by Ambassador Carla Sands, who served as United States Ambassador to Denmark, and Barbara Bagshaw, a member of the Maine House of Representatives from District 106 in Windham.
Today's topics:
• Four scheduled Senate days before the August recess, with the SAVE America Act still off the Majority Leader's agenda and Senator John Kennedy calling it a huge mistake
• Fifty senators already on record, sixty votes needed for cloture, and Senator Mike Lee threatening to force a recorded adjournment vote
• New Jersey admits 6,600 noncitizens were added to its voter rolls through a Motor Vehicle Commission error, with as many as 400 of them casting ballots
• Chairmen Bryan Steil and Jim Jordan, with Representatives Laurel Lee and Jeff Van Drew, formally demand New Jersey's records and ask whether the state knew in June 2024 and let an election run anyway
• Representative Barbara Bagshaw on the addresses that moved from House District 107 into her District 106, the response she got, and the letter she sent Secretary of State Shenna Bellows
• Why a boundary that can move on its own is not a paperwork problem
• The reported photo-ID requirement at New York City's proposed government-run grocery stores, the mayor's walk-back to a discount loyalty card, and the point Senators Mike Lee, Marsha Blackburn, and Rick Scott are making about what Americans already show identification for
• Polling from McLaughlin and Associates, commissioned by Tea Party Patriots Action: 78.3 percent back proof of citizenship to register, 82.3 percent say only citizens should vote, 77.7 percent back photo identification
• Iran talks restart as the President calls them a last chance, describes a two-phase deal beginning with the shipping lanes, and says a planned operation was scrubbed at the request of Gulf allies
• Tehran claims it is negotiating only with Oman and not with the United States at all
• American manufacturing hits a four-year high with the Institute for Supply Management index at 55.6 percent, and factory hiring expands for the first time in 33 months
• The Senate Judiciary Committee votes this morning on Todd Blanche for Attorney General after two Republican holds came off
• Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg call to revisit or abolish the Electoral College, expand the Supreme Court to 13 justices, and grant statehood to Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia
• Primaries today in Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, Washington, and Virginia, with a Democratic Socialist heavily favored in Michigan's Democratic Senate primary
• Jenny Beth closes on Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dana Bash, and the line in the Declaration of Independence that says governments are instituted to secure our rights
• Call to action: dial the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and tell both of your senators to stay in session and pass the SAVE America Act before they leave town
