Ignore the Polls? Why Republicans Must Look the Voter in the Eye on Prices | Scott Presler

Late deciders favor Republicans by nine, in the same poll that puts Democrats ahead in all seven Senate races. Scott Presler on what the field says.

The final New York Times and Siena College polls, taken October 23 through November 1, show Democrats ahead in all seven Senate races most likely to decide control. Buried in the same survey is the number that did not make the headline: voters who made up their minds in the last month favor Republicans by nine points. Guest host Robert McNeily asks Scott Presler, founder of Early Vote Action, which half of that sentence matches what he sees knocking doors in Pennsylvania the day before the election.

Presler's answer starts with President Trump: many of his supporters are more loyal to him than to the Republican Party, which is why the party needs him at the top of the ballot. Trump is saying put my agenda on the ballot, and Presler says Republicans should run toward it, not away from it. Asked whether Speaker Mike Johnson and Mark Levin are right to say ignore the polls and just vote, Presler gives the message he would run on in the last day: look the voter in the eye and admit that life is hard, that gas and groceries cost more than anyone would like. Then ask how putting Democrats who oppose oil, natural gas, and drilling into power makes any of it cheaper, and how continued illegal immigration helps housing, health care, or overcrowded schools.

In this segment:

• Democrats ahead in all seven, late deciders Republican by nine
• Trump's base is more loyal to Trump than to the party
• Put my agenda on the ballot: why Presler says run toward it
• Ignore the polls? The affordability message for the last day
