It is Election Day, and in under two minutes Jenny Beth Martin lays out what the Democratic Socialists of America, the movement now steering the Democratic Party's left, say they want for the country. Abolish the United States Senate, so Congress becomes a single chamber. Have that one chamber pick the president, turning the executive into a prime minister answerable to the legislature instead of an independent branch. Expand and pack the Supreme Court, so there is no independent judiciary either. Put together, that is the end of the three branches of government that check and balance one another.
Then the rest of the platform. No ICE and no secure border, with amnesty and citizenship for people who entered the country illegally, not for the people who obeyed the law. Abolish prisons and abolish police, starting by defunding both. Her answer: the United States is at its lowest violent crime rate since 1900, and getting rid of police and prisons would send it climbing again, the way it did under the Biden administration.
This is the choice on the ballot today. If you have not voted, go vote. If you have, call your friends and family and make sure they do.
