White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt walked into the briefing room and held up the would-be assassin’s manifesto. Then she said the words inside it were “indistinguishable” from what high-ranking Democrats say every single day.
Jenny Beth Martin walks through the receipts. Hakeem Jeffries last week declaring “we are in an era of maximum warfare everywhere all the time” — and yesterday refusing to walk it back: “I stand by it. You can continue to criticize me for it. I don’t give a damn about your criticism.” Sen. Alex Padilla saying people are “dying because of fear and terror” caused by the Trump administration. Sen. Elizabeth Warren calling America a “fascist state.” Rep. Adam Schiff condemning violence — and then attaching a “but.” Gov. J.B. Pritzker declaring Republicans “should never know a moment of peace.”
This is the rhetorical environment in which someone tried to kill the President of the United States on Saturday night. And the top Democrat in the House said it — and stands by it.
