Agnes Gibboney went to a yearly convention for parents whose children had died. Parents of stillborn babies spoke. Parents of children lost to cancer spoke. When it was her turn, she said her son was murdered, and she was called out: we don't use that word. They wanted her to say he was taken, or that he passed. In this clip she gives her answer. Her son did not pass. His life was taken by a man who chose to load a gun, walk down a long driveway, and fire it. That gun did not do it by itself, and she will not put little roses around what happened.
Jenny Beth Martin calls it political correctness gone wrong, and then explains where her own conviction comes from. Her father is a minister with a gift for helping families through a death, and he taught her that you have to use the words dead and died, because there is finality in them and the family is about to bury someone. Society would rather say "passed on." Murder means something very specific, and you cannot gloss over it or sugarcoat it. Agnes closes with the choice she made afterward: she never sought restitution for the funeral, because she did not want his money.
