For two and a half years the left has attacked the SAVE America Act as unnecessary and unpopular. The polling says otherwise, and it has never wavered. Pollster John McLaughlin walks Jenny Beth Martin through Tea Party Patriots Action's new national survey of 1,000 likely voters: 82% of Americans say only United States citizens should be allowed to vote in elections for president, Senate, and House, with 67% strongly agreeing. The support is bipartisan and crosses every line in American life — Republicans 91 to 6, Democrats 72 to 19, independents 84 to 10, Hispanic Americans 74 to 17, African Americans 74 to 20. Even after months of negative press, 56% of Americans say the Senate should keep working to pass the bill before this year's elections. Then the receipts: New Jersey's admission that thousands of noncitizens were registered and hundreds voted, New York's green light law and motor voter pipeline that puts anyone with a driver's license on the rolls unless they decline, and Alaska's division of elections registering noncitizens automatically through the Permanent Fund Dividend. As Jenny Beth Martin puts it, states cannot check proof of citizenship before they register people — and in that gap, people who should never be on the rolls are voting.
