The most common argument against the SAVE America Act is that noncitizen voting is already against the law, so a new law is unnecessary. Driena Sixto, Spanish Media Director at the Lincoln Media Foundation, takes that apart in three minutes with an analogy nobody can misunderstand.
Olive Garden sold unlimited pasta passes. Everyone who bought one knows they have to show a photo identification to prove they are the person who bought it, or the pass just gets handed around and the whole system stops working. As Sixto puts it, this is the same situation, and this is not about pasta. It is about whether Americans can trust their elections.
She goes further: without a verification step before registration, the prohibition runs on the honor system and is effectively unenforceable. And she argues there should be real consequences for the roughly 400 noncitizens New Jersey admits cast ballots, because enforcement without consequences is not enforcement.
