Jenny Beth Martin makes the argument first, and it is aimed squarely at the person who voted in 2024 and is not sure it changed enough. Things are better than they were. If you do not come back out and vote, you hand the House and the Senate back.
Ashley Hayek finishes the thought harder than that: you canceled your vote. Everything accomplished since 2024 either grinds to a halt or gets undone, and staying home is in many ways worse than voting the other way, because of who gets seated in your place.
Her description of those candidates is specific. They come out of the Democratic Socialists of America, the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Working Families Party, and they are using the Democratic Party as a vehicle. If you thought defund the police was the ceiling, she says, it was the tip of the iceberg. They want to abolish everything. By its own numbers, the Democratic Socialists of America counts more than 120,000 dues paying members and says it elected more than 250 officials in 2025 alone.
Then Jenny Beth Martin lays out the list, and this is the part worth sitting with. Abolish the Senate. Abolish or pack the Supreme Court. Make the presidency report to Congress. Abolish the police, immigration enforcement and the prisons. Two full branches of government and half of a third. That is not reforming a government, she says. That is replacing one.
