Dr. Torsten Trey grew up in West Germany watching the Wall from the free side, and in 2006, while finishing his American medical license, he read that a Chinese surgeon had confessed to removing the corneas of 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners. He went to the World Transplant Congress in Boston that July, found Chinese doctors who told him the organs came from Falun Gong practitioners, and founded Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting that summer. Twenty years later, in this Surviving Communism interview with Jenny Beth Martin, he explains how a one-party state turned its hospitals into the execution ground, why Western transplant experts tried to block his data, and how a bill against forced organ harvesting went bipartisan in both chambers of Congress.
