[00:00:00] A historic Republican National Convention is happening tonight. It's historic because it's happening midterm and not during a presidential year. We are joined today by a man who helped plan it and who is on the Republican National Committee. I'm Jenny Beth Martin, and this is The Jenny Beth Show.
[00:00:31] Welcome to The Jenny Beth Show. Steve Bossie, welcome to the show. Thanks for having me. Tell our viewers a little bit about who you are and your background. You've been involved in politics for a very long time. You started, what, as a staffer on Capitol Hill? Jenny Beth, you are making me feel old and part of the, you know, look, I got involved when Ronald Reagan was president.
[00:01:00] And I had the opportunity to vote for President Reagan in his reelection, 1984. I turned 18 a couple of days before Election Day, 1984. And that was the first campaign I ever worked on as a kid. I got bit by the conservative political bug as a young man.
[00:01:20] And my dad taught me a few things during Jimmy Carter's administration when I was in my formative teenage years when we had gas lines. And, you know, we had a, it was back when you had to get gas based on the last number of your license plate, odd days and even days. Well, we had a car. We had two cars. One car had an even plate. One car had an odd plate.
[00:01:49] And my job was every few days to change the license plates on the cars, depending on which car needed gas. Because my parents were not going to not be able to go to work to provide for their family because the government was instituting these ridiculous regulations.
[00:02:09] And so, you know, the Jimmy Carter years, both the gas lines, the horrible condition that he put America in, and of course the Iran hostage deal really created Ronald Reagan and the modern conservative movement. And I just have been proud to have been a part of that, a small part of that.
[00:02:32] And so I've been, I was a staffer on Capitol Hill. I served both in the House and Senate. I was the chief investigator for the House Senate, the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight, where I oversaw all the Clinton investigations. So that goes back a long time. I had a chance to work with some of the great conservative leaders of the 90s, including Speaker Newt Gingrich.
[00:02:58] And so I had an incredible experience leading up to the impeachment of working all the way through that. And I worked on the Senate Whitewater Committee as well, which really was the beginning of the Whitewater impeachment effort. And so I did that for a couple of years and just had an incredible experience on Capitol Hill. And then from there I came to Citizens United, which is where I've been for quite a long time.
[00:03:26] And we do a lot of different types of work that I find very interesting. And Citizens United has been around since 1988 and been around a long time. And we do a lot of litigation work, a lot of investigative work, a lot of FOIA litigation work over the years.
[00:03:45] We've I've written many, many books and we've produced and really were the were the cutting edge, the leader in conservative films, longer format documentary films. And we made one on Hillary Clinton back in 2007 that I took all the way to the United States Supreme Court in Citizens United versus the Federal Election Commission.
[00:04:09] As people may remember, was the case that freed up America's speech and was the biggest First Amendment victory in about 100 years. And it was based on Citizens United. The case was based upon a documentary film that on Hillary Clinton that the federal government would not allow me to advertise. And I said, well, we're not having that.
[00:04:38] And so we we took them to court and we were the little guy taking on Goliath and we beat them and they didn't anticipate that. And so we were we did we won that case in 2010. And, you know, a week before the State of the Union and Barack Obama went to the well of the House and attacked the United States Supreme Court.
[00:05:01] If you remember, Justice Alito famously smiled the words not true, which was the big kerfuffle of that State of the Union. And his attack on the Supreme Court would never been done before quite like that. And so Citizens United has been, you know, been really a leading force in the conservative movement for a long time. And I've known you, Jenny Beth, for many, many years since 2000, maybe 2010, maybe a little bit before that.
[00:05:29] But the Tea Party movement really was born from that that time. And so we've been we just really enjoy the work. I will tell you that the Trump derangement syndrome that we see and the hatred of Donald Trump by the left, what I what I really believe. And that is that the left and it's really not the left anymore, is it, Jenny Beth?
[00:05:59] They're really beyond that. We can get into that in a moment. But it's the left, as I call them, hate Donald Trump more than they love our country. It doesn't even matter what he's doing. They have to be against it. I mean, think about it. The guy is fixing fountains and beautifying monuments that are hundreds of years old in Washington, D.C., something to make Washington, D.C.
[00:06:27] the crown jewel of our nation, which it should be fixing Lafayette Park outside the White House complex. And they attack him for it. I mean, it's incredible. Barack Obama, Bill Clinton did these things. They would praise him. But they can't let their hatred of Donald Trump get in the way of of of of attacking him. So anyway, we'll we'll get into these other issues. But that that's those are the types of things Citizens United were working on. Our next film is going to be great.
[00:06:56] It's it'll be next year. But, you know, I believe that communism and socialism is on the rise here. We need to fight it at every turn. And we and I think a long format documentary film reminding the American people about the dangers of of of it's not really even socialism anymore. These guys are insane.
[00:07:22] You know, when I was a kid, when I when when Ronald Reagan was president, if you use the word socialist, you were scoffed at because you were just being a radical. Don't say things like that. No, it doesn't mean anything. It does now. They've blown way past socialism. Well, I have several things to say to follow up with with you.
[00:07:44] But that last comment, when you said that during President Reagan's term, they said, oh, you can't use you know, they would just laugh if you use the word socialist. When this Tea Party movement started and we said that the things that President Obama was doing were socialist. People warned us. No, you can't say that President Obama is a socialist. You can't use that word.
[00:08:07] Well, we went from not being able to say he was a socialist, which he was all the way to full on Marxist communism is what we're we're looking at right now. So I I don't I we have to call it out. Jenny Beth, you're exactly right. Remember, Barack Obama was was heard saying we're going to I'm going to fundamentally transform this nation. We now know what that meant.
[00:08:36] Yes, we now know it. And you were exactly right back then. And folks like us, you know, who've been trying to fight these battles on a daily basis for many, many years. It fall. It fell on deaf ears. And now everybody shrugs and goes, well, of course, that's what they meant. Well, you know what? It wasn't that simple. No, it wasn't. And now at least people know what what he meant with it. But we're we're beyond those small skirmishes now.
[00:09:03] We are in a full blown metaphorical war. I don't mean fists in the streets, but but metaphorically, politically speaking, it definitely is beyond just the skirmishes. These are people who want to abolish the Senate, abolish the Supreme Court, abolish the presidency and just basically replace two and a half branches of our government with the other one one half of one third of our government.
[00:09:30] It that that completely fundamentally undoes our Constitution. It it's where we would no longer be a constitutional republic. You're exactly right. These are dangerous ideas. They're not just ideas to be debated. They're dangerous. And and saying that we are going to rid the country of the United States Senate.
[00:09:56] Some argue and I'm not one of them, that it's the greatest deliberative body in the in the world. You know what? It used to be. You know, I think that it's the Democrats want government shutdown. They want government to not work when Republicans are in office because that's really all they can sell. That's all they have to sell is the negative. They can't sell a positive agenda for America because they don't have one.
[00:10:26] All they can sell is being a fully red faced hatred of Donald Trump. And when you look at what they're running right now, you look at this Mondani character in New York City who will single handedly. Destroy the greatest city.
[00:11:13] You know, you know, is going to start to fall apart because he's driving wealth out of New York. He's driving it over to New Jersey. He's driving it to Delaware. He's driving it to Florida. We see these these the antics that he has, the these these new taxes that he's bringing about. These people are not stupid. They didn't get to be millionaires and and quite honestly, hundreds of millionaires or billionaires by being stupid or by being obstinate and hardheaded.
[00:11:43] These people are going to move. They're not going to willingly give another five, 10 percent of their wealth over to a socialist who is just going to throw it away. So, look, you know, we have a lot of things to cover, but this is where America is headed. These are the fights that are ahead of us. And that's, you know, and that's why. That's why this next 70 days is so important. You are exactly right about that.
[00:12:13] It's where where the fight is headed. And it's not going to be just this election where we're going to have to to have these intellectual battles. We're going to have to be able to do it going into 2028 and and probably beyond them, because there is a lot that we've got to unwind with people who've been educated in our public school system for the last decade and a half or longer. And they're voting. They're in their 20s and they just don't understand.
[00:12:43] They've been sold a bill of goods that are all just lies are not true. But they don't they don't remember what you remember about Jimmy Carter because they weren't alive then. They don't remember what we remember about President Reagan and the Soviet Union because they were not alive then. So they can't actually they aren't pulling from the same wealth of knowledge that that we are because we have that historical reminder of it because we live through it. Jenny Beth, you're exactly right.
[00:13:12] But I will say I wasn't around and you weren't around for Pearl Harbor. Now we remember the greatest generation. We remember that. Why? Because they taught it in schools. They taught American history in schools when we were kids. We learned how to read and write, you know, and it was arithmetic and the basics.
[00:13:40] These these teachers today, the politics of the school systems today have gotten away from teaching the fundamentals. And so when you talk about World War Two and you think about how could you when 400,000 young men lost their lives, you know, you think about how would we even come up with. And I know we can.
[00:14:05] But you think about the biggest invasion ever done in world history, you know, on that morning in June, you know, at Normandy. And you say to yourself, these 18 year old, 20 year old kids. And they want. They want. They want the opposite of that. They they're they're not interested in fighting for liberty and freedom at home or abroad.
[00:14:34] And that is that's where that's what we have. We have we have we have we have a lot of problems. And and and to your point, I really think a lot of the the fundamentals that we have are are from, you know, early childhood development all the way through high school, that they're not getting those. The building blocks of an education that's classical in a sense. Yeah, I completely agree with you on that.
[00:15:00] And it's why the documentary that you're working on and the work that we're all doing and the work that Turning Point USA does is is so important because we have to keep we have to just keep as much as we are able and as much as they're willing to listen to us, give them the opportunity to to learn. Well, you know, they want to control the minds of the youth. Right. Right. Yes. The young people.
[00:15:28] And that is why to to bring up Turning Point, I mean, you know, our friend Charlie Kirk. Who, you know, was just. Savagely murdered in the name of socialism and communism, they wanted he was he was one of our most effective tools, one of our most effective spokesman to young people. And I feel like they were threatened by that.
[00:15:58] And that is why they attacked him. So and in life. And that's why they ended his life, because they felt like he was dangerous. And so we're in a different world today. You know, look back and when I was when I was, you know, Charlie's age, you know, the worst thing that might happen is you get punched in the face, you know, and you didn't even want that. You get into a debate with people. Oh, but today it's a different world.
[00:16:26] And it really I mean, you look at what's going on in Portland, in Seattle, in these big cities where they where they shut out the police. They create their own little chop zones. Right. I mean, we've seen it all before over the years now, whether it's Antifa or or Black Lives Matter or or whatever the the leftist movement is du jour. They don't want opposition. They stifle opposition. They can't they can't afford opposition.
[00:16:56] So it's it's a it's a tough place that America is in. And it's only through brave leader and and and the leadership, you know, that speaks the truth. Are we going to be able to win this? You're right about that. One of the things that you you mentioned, you talked about how the left. Well, well, two things.
[00:17:22] First, you said that the left is not really the left anymore. And that is so true. Like it makes what we saw with President Bill Clinton look quaint compared to to what we're seeing right now today. And I think that Hillary was always much more to the left than than President Bill Clinton was. He was he he did try to be more of a centrist.
[00:17:47] But what we're seeing today is is further left than I think even Hillary Clinton could have imagined that the Democratic Party would go. And then when you mentioned that the left just they hate Trump more than they love our country. They hate Trump more than anything. Hating Trump is is the thing that that motivates them more than anything. I find it so ironic because these are the same people that will put yard signs in their yard that says love Trump's hate. And yet they're the ones filled with hate.
[00:18:16] The hatred, the hatred that they have. And when I say they hate Donald Trump more than they love our country, they do things that are detrimental to the country just in order to be against Donald Trump. It is an incredible thing. I never thought I would see that, quite honestly, in politics, but we see it over and over again. We see it on a daily basis. We see it on a daily basis. It doesn't matter what the issue is.
[00:18:44] They can they fight him on building a ballroom, not for himself. OK, the ballroom is going to be done almost at the end of his presidency. It's for future generations. It's not for anything else but for the next president and the next president who could be a Democrat. But but look, you know, the left has lost their way. They flit around there.
[00:19:13] They grab on to the socialist or communist du jour. You look at this guy, Piker, who's a podcaster. I just find it to be remarkable that anybody listens to him. But you got this guy, El Saeed in Michigan, who who pals around with him, who goes, you know, to to pool parties and to, you know, to conferences and has dinner with the guy and praises him.
[00:19:40] And now that he's, you know, the nominee for Senate, he can't remember who he is. OK, it's just a joke. But everyone listening to this today needs to understand that if a guy like El Saeed wins the general election. With his incredibly dangerous beliefs. He is going to turn around immediately and run for president.
[00:20:07] There will not even be a moment between his election night if he was to win. And I don't believe he will. I believe that's a Michigan Senate seat that we will pick up on election night. But God forbid he was to win. I believe that he runs for president immediately as a socialist candidate and will need to be taken seriously. And so we have our work cut out for us as a conservative movement.
[00:20:36] We have to get off our butts. We have to not be whining and wringing our hands about everything isn't going perfectly because it's not. And we all know it. OK, we Jenny Beth, people, you know, listening to us, we talk about this. We see each other. We know that things aren't perfect, but we have to work as a team to make things better. And we as voters, we can't sit at home and not vote because things then go poorly. They go the wrong way.
[00:21:06] If we lose this midterm election, don't kid yourself. They will be impeaching the president. They will be impeaching his cabinet. They will be going after everybody. You know, and to be honest with you, I think the president Trump should, you know, if I was him, you know, post election, win or lose the midterms.
[00:21:27] I would just be, you know, issuing all the pardons that are necessary to make sure that because it's one way to deflect all of the nastiness, whether people did anything or not. If you can't be brought up before, you know, Congress on all of these trumped up BS, I think that that's a positive.
[00:21:49] I think that that will be a good thing for America, that you bite, that you just, you know, bypass all of that negativity because the show is what they want. And they don't care. They just want to ruin everybody that had anything to do with Donald Trump. And I think that I think that's what we're in for, which is why we have to motivate our team. And that's why I'm glad that there's this midterm convention. I think it's never been done before.
[00:22:19] Jenny Beth, you and I will be in Dallas for the midterm convention. It's only a couple of days. I think you're going to see a reset button. I think that the Vice President Vance, President Trump will come in there, give great speeches.
[00:22:35] But during the evenings of both nights of the convention, it's going to be kind of an education for the American people about promises made, promises kept, about what we remember, what we inherited. Meaning what the Trump administration inherited from the disastrous Biden years. Those the Biden-Harris four years of socialism and destruction of America.
[00:23:02] Steve, how long did it take for President Reagan to straighten things out after four years of Jimmy Carter? Well, I mean, I think there would be an argument that would say that there was all eight years of his presidency was taken up by solving those problems, including the Middle East, which, you know, which President Reagan had to deal with every minute of every day.
[00:23:29] And I think, you know, obviously that was the beginning of what ended up happening. We're coming up on the anniversary of September 11th and the attacks on the World Trade Center and on the Pentagon and those heroes of that day. And that was the beginning of this. We've been at war, whether we want to admit it or not, you know, since the 70s.
[00:23:56] And I think that only President Trump, you know, look, I, you know. Do I want to be, you know, in these wars? No. Do I believe that Iran needs to pay for the sins of the last 50 years? Absolutely. Absolutely. And the way that we have been taking the war to them, the economic warfare, the kinetic war that President Trump has unleashed on him, on Iran.
[00:24:26] Look, I'm a believer in. I want it to end, but I want it to end with them being completely debilitated and regime change. That's what I'd like to see. And I would, too. I think that, I think it's because you and I were so, it was so impactful to us in our childhood. Yeah.
[00:24:50] That it set the political direction for the rest of our lives, watching those hostages be taken. And I was a little bit younger than you. My first vote for president was George H.W. Bush. Rather, I wish I could have voted for Reagan. But those hostages, they impacted the way that I think about politics for the rest of my life.
[00:25:16] And I want that regime to completely change. I want them to be decimated. I don't want them to be a threat to America for another 47 years. Without question. I don't want my kids, my grandkids now to feel that same threat that we've lived with our entire lives. I think that this, our entire adult lives. This is why leadership matters.
[00:25:43] President Trump, you know, is not somebody who shrinks away from hard jobs. And that's what he's been doing. He did it his entire first term, and he's doing it now his first two years. He's taking on the tough challenges. Whether, you know, in the first year, he's ended a lot of wars. He's saved a lot of lives. He's trying to be a peace president.
[00:26:07] But when there's a nuke involved, when there's a nuclear bomb involved, and Iran is on the receiving end of having one, President Trump said enough's enough, and we're not going to allow it because they're crazy enough to use it. And they're not crazy. Let's be honest. We all know they're not crazy. They're believers. And they believe that using it to destroy Israel is what they are here for.
[00:26:36] So I'm just, I'm grateful. But look, President Trump's done a lot for America, whether it's the economy, whether it's law and order, the border. And, Jenny Beth, we don't even talk about the border anymore because it's been fixed. It's outrageous. Think about that for just a split second. It's the number one issue for a dozen years, and now it's not even in the top ten a year later. Why? Because President Trump has solved the problem.
[00:27:06] And he's on to other problems, but he solved it. And he didn't solve it with help of Democrats. He solved it with the stroke of a pen, with leadership, and with a Republican Congress. And we can't allow Democrats to take over the House or the Senate because it will just undermine everything. It will put us back, you know, a long way, and it will undo a lot of what President Trump has done.
[00:27:32] And so, you know, I'm excited for the next 70 days. We have our hands full. We have a lot of uphill battles. But I think we're going to come out on the top. Yeah, yes. It's going to be very hard work, but it can be done. It absolutely can be done. And President Trump solved the border problem despite the Democrats. Dave, let's talk briefly about the economy and law and order.
[00:28:00] What all has President Trump done in both of these to help make things better? Even though, especially address this part with the economy, you and I both understand it's not where we want it to ultimately be. Well, look, I think that, you know, the economy would be a lot better off, you know, if gas prices were down, right?
[00:28:25] I mean, I think that inflation, which is really was out of control after Biden and President Trump has solved a lot of those issues. But I think that the war has slowed down his economic progress. And I think he understands that and accepts it.
[00:28:47] He believes that it's worth it at the end, that a little bit of pain over several months is worth the generational change that will come in the Middle East. And I think that, you know, if you look honestly at the economic policies of President Trump versus Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, that there's there's no comparison. And the economic freedom, low taxes, higher wages, more savings.
[00:29:16] Those are the things that the American people want. And that's what they're seeing. I do believe that if we can once we get this war behind us and we will, you know, the economy is going to explode once again. I think that you are exactly right about about that. And then when it comes to law and order, violent crime is down to, I think, a 90 year low right now, which is just incredible. I mean, you look at the murder rate.
[00:29:42] Well, you know, you look at what President Trump's done, even again, even against the wishes of Democrat governors and Democrat mayors in these blue cities. President Trump does what is right, not what is politically expedient. And so he takes on these Democrat socialist mayors and he says, we're going to send in, you know, the military. We're going to send in the National Guard.
[00:30:07] We're going to make sure that New Orleans gets its act together, that St. Louis, Chicago, it doesn't matter. We are going to make the city safer, even if you do not want us to. And Washington, D.C., again, you know, it was a very dangerous place to walk at night. Now this place is incredible. Washington, D.C., you know, don't get me wrong, you still have some, you know, you still have some bad guys out there.
[00:30:36] But it is very much a different city. And I think all of them are. If you look at New Orleans now, you know, it's a safe city. You know, they have Mardi Gras. They have all of the they have some of the greatest cultural events, the music, food festivals down in New Orleans. And it's a great city.
[00:30:58] But it was hampered by crime, whether it was the murder rate, the carjacking rates, the robbery rates. They were out of control. And now they're back to being a safe city again. And that's because of the leadership of guys like Jeff Landry, the governor, putting the state police and the National Guard into place. But also it's the leadership of President Trump.
[00:31:25] And I think that that's what he's basically saying is, you know, we're not going to be pushed around by the bad guys. The left has always been, you know, oh, if we just are nice to them, they'll be nice to us. It doesn't work that way. No, and right now the big government socialists want to abolish the police and abolish prisons. It's in the Democratic Socialists of America's platform right now to get rid of both of them. Yeah, it's insane.
[00:31:53] I mean, I look at this. You know, you look at these Democrat mayors and they don't want to work with ICE. They don't want to work with the Border Patrol. They don't want to work with any, with DOJ to try and get their city safer. And I just don't, I don't get why they, and it goes back to what we were talking about earlier. They will do anything to undermine the president. They will not work with the president.
[00:32:21] They don't want to be seen as working with the president because their base, the people who vote for them to keep them in office, to keep them in power, don't, you know, they are the Trump haters. And so that small minority within the Democrat Party voter base is who really runs the Democrat Party.
[00:32:45] And I think that we're seeing that across the country, whether it's Mayor Mondami, you know, what's her name? Katie Wilson out in Seattle, the mayor out there, the socialist mayor out there, or El Saad, like I was talking about in Michigan. There's many people like that.
[00:33:06] There's over and over, they're electing these socialists, these communists, and they make Bernie Sanders, you know, look like a lightweight. Which is really hard to do, but that's where we are right now with them.
[00:33:24] And what's really interesting to me as I watch it, we have people like Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and even Senator Chuck Schumer, who they keep saying things like, no, I don't agree with what the Democratic socialists are saying. But we've got a big tent and we will welcome anybody. So they want to have it both ways. They want to be against it and for it at the same time.
[00:33:49] And I don't, I hope that the American people are smart enough to understand that if you let that have a nose under your tent, it will get inside and it will ruin the entire party. It will ruin the entire country. And if the Democratic Party is not going to reject it, then Americans have to do so at the polls. Oh, without question. I mean, you look at, you look at what just happened with Hakeem Jeffries meeting with Jared Kushner. Okay.
[00:34:18] You know, I just found that, look, I shook my head, you know, guys, you know, I know Jared very well and he speaks on behalf of the president all over around the world. He deals with, you know, he's meeting with Hezbollah and Hamas. Right. But it was more controversial than he met with Hakeem Jeffries. Okay. And it's just an incredible thing that the left has lost their way. And it just shows you on a daily basis that they've lost their way.
[00:34:48] But the left attacked Hakeem Jeffries viciously and condemned his meeting. It's part of the problem with America. You know, like I said earlier, you can't disagree with anybody anymore because you have to have fear that you're going to be attacked.
[00:35:09] You know, to use the Ronald Reagan example again, you know, he and Tip O'Neill didn't agree on much. The Democrat speaker back then, I mean, Tip O'Neill was speaker for decades. But they would disagree during the day and then they would have a drink together at night and to try to make sure there was, you know, some level of civility, that there was some open lines of communication.
[00:35:38] If you can't even talk to your opponents, what are we doing? And I'm not, you know, I'm a believer in winning. Winning, okay? And winning solves a lot of problems. But you also have to be able to talk to everybody. And we do know. I mean, that's just common sense. It's not like it's a, it's, that's not new. But when we can't even talk to your opponents, and even in the Clinton years, when we were going at it, you know, really in difficult days,
[00:36:06] there were still plenty of conversations that could be had because they were, you know, men and women who, whether you, you might disagree with them on an issue, but they didn't hate the country. We can't say that today. There are people who want to tear this country apart. And that's what we have to stop. You're exactly right. And it's what Charlie Kirk kept saying. We have to be able to have conversations. We have to be able to talk.
[00:36:32] We have to be able to go and listen to other people and have a conversation with them. But the Democratic Party wants no talking. They don't want to talk across the aisle. They don't want to listen to what the other side says. And they just shut, they shut the door on that at every single turn. And when Hakeem Jeffries met with Jared, he came back out and said, look, I met with him, but I still want to, basically, I'm paraphrasing here,
[00:36:58] but basically, I still want to put the entire Trump, quote, cartel under investigation, and that would include Jared. So to appease the base, he has to turn around and say, oh, yeah, I met with him, but I want to investigate him. And during the Clinton administration, Speaker New Gingrich, then Speaker New Gingrich, and then President Clinton were able to get to a balanced budget.
[00:37:25] We had a balanced budget in America, and we, the Democrats won't even, they won't even vote for the Save America Act, much less talk about where we can agree in spending. Yeah, the Save America Act is such common sense, and you see so many Democrats who are in favor of reforms that are common sense.
[00:37:46] Again, it's amazing, you use the word common sense, the words common sense, and you feel like you're out of your mind anymore, if you say, because it's, how do you not believe in some of these things? How can you say on one thing, on one hand, you're going to vote for them, and then when you get to Washington, you know, as every Democrat will not vote for it. And it's such common sense. I mean, you have to use your ID for everything in this country, okay?
[00:38:15] You want to go buy some Tylenol PM, you know, they're scanning the back of your driver's license, right? If you're, you know, you're buying cough syrup, but you can't, you can go vote with no ID at all. It's common sense to solve these problems. And President Trump, to his benefit, look, he is trying incredibly hard. He's not getting a lot of support.
[00:38:43] You and I have, on the Save America Act, we've been banging our head against the wall for a long time, Jenny Beth. You and I have, for, you know, months, years now, been banging the drum of election integrity. And it's just a shame that we just can't even change the simplest things.
[00:39:04] And President Trump, you know, is changing them where he can, just with the post office and the Postal Service saying we're not going to be, you know, sending out these ballots just willy-nilly. And we're going to have some rules and regulations. And the left goes crazy because they know that's how they win races. Yeah, they want to be able to protect the cheat.
[00:39:28] So, we will, we don't, I'm not giving up hope that we eventually will get the Save America Act passed, even though we haven't been able to get it done for this election cycle. It's still such an important piece of legislation. We have to keep going back and fighting for it. We have to get it done. I mean, when you say save America, I mean, it is exactly what it does. I mean, we must pass it.
[00:39:57] To be honest with you, I'm very nervous for the future of our country having not passed it already. And this election cycle is upon us. And ballots are going to be mailed in 40 days from now, 30 days from now in some states. So, you know, we got a lot of hurdles to clear to be able to save this country. And the Save America Act is one of them.
[00:40:23] And I'm so grateful to President Trump that he hasn't just looked at it like another piece of legislation and said, okay, well, we tried. We didn't get it, you know, and move along. He's really harped on it. And leadership, you know, by guys like Rick Scott, Mike Lee, the leader for this in the United States Senate, we just can't thank them enough.
[00:40:46] No, I'm so thankful for them and for Congressman Chip Roy and for Speaker Mike Johnson, who also hasn't let it die. They all are fighting for it. And I think that we just we have to keep being focused on working to get it done. But the fact that it hasn't been done cannot be an excuse for us not to be engaged and not to vote. We can't be so frustrated that we haven't gotten our way yet in the Senate.
[00:41:15] And so that means, well, they're all dead to me and I won't vote. And it just means we haven't gotten our way yet and we have to keep working. Our system was designed for slow change, not for rapid change. And sometimes that slow change makes me want to scream. Yeah, you and me both. And you're exactly right.
[00:41:35] We people listening to this show, your friends, your families, we have to turn out and vote every single one of us, even if we're unhappy. Jenny Beth, I'm unhappy. I know you're unhappy just with the Save America Act. We're unhappy where we are. But that's not President Trump's fault. But guess what? If we lose the House or Senate. President Trump pays the price.
[00:42:00] It's not his fault that the Republicans can't get Democrats to vote for anything because they hate him more than they love our country. And so we can't just abandon him and abandon the Republican cause or abandon the conservative movement cause that is the Save America Act and many other issues. Look, I hate continuing resolutions. I hate them. Right. We fight them at all costs. But you know what?
[00:42:30] We're going to have to have one here shortly in order to make sure that what do the Democrats want? Democrats want to shut the government down again. They want to shut it down. That's right. They just want to shut it down. Why? To make it harder for us to win in November. And they think that they can pick up a seat or two here or there if they shut down the government. We have to have a CR. And we have to have John Thune and Mike Johnson agree on what that is and be done with it and move past it so that we can have those fights another day. It doesn't sound great.
[00:43:00] It's not what I came here to do. It's not what you came here to do. But if we have a government shutdown over, you know, over some mundane issue in a CR, we are going to pay big time dividends in the negative and we can't afford it. We have the wins are against us right now. Midterm election, right? I mean, of the party in power.
[00:43:28] And that's just historically the way it is. We have to fight at every turn. We as a conservative movement, we have to fight to be able to win so that we can have those victories over the next two years. Otherwise, we're looking at two years of devastation. I just can't urge people enough. We have to turn out and vote, have to turn out and vote. And we have to make sure that our friends and families are doing the same thing. Okay. One last question for you.
[00:43:58] You're not just a man who has worked for Congress and for the Senate and work for a nonprofit and produce documentaries. You really are a fighter and you're active. You're part of your state and local Republican Party. That's why you're involved with the National Republican Party because you are not just a talker. You're an activist.
[00:44:24] Can you just remind people of the importance of local activism, whether they're involved at the level where they wind up going as a delegate to a national convention or they're just involved locally? All of it matters. Oh, my gosh. Jenny Beth, it's so good to talk about that. And thank you for asking.
[00:44:44] Look, people knocking on doors, going door to door, making phone calls from your home or from a campaign headquarters is some of the most important work that can be done. Working a polling place on Election Day is one of the most important things you could do as an activist. Please go do those things. Get involved in the Republican Party. Make it more conservative in your area.
[00:45:12] Become a member of the local central committee so that you can elect state party leaders that represent, you know, the America first agenda that you care so much about. That's where we make change. We make change all the way from the bottom to the top. Look, we've been successful in electing Donald Trump. But look at the fights he's in. Look at those fights.
[00:45:37] And if we had been better at the ground game over the past many years, and you and I have talked about this before, but if we had been better at that, he'd be in a better place today in passing some of his legislation. We would have won some of those closer races. So we need to win them now. But I urge you, yes, I'm the elected national committeeman to the Republican national committeeman from the state of Maryland where I live.
[00:46:04] And so I represent and I and I did that during President Trump's first campaign in 2016 so that I would be able to help him and his mission on the RNC team. And it's been so important to be there. You know, I was the deputy campaign manager in 2016. Kellyanne Conway, Steve Bannon and I, you know, helped run that campaign, that winning campaign and put that first term together.
[00:46:34] And so, you know, it has been it's been an honor, you know, of a lifetime. Doesn't mean it's not frustrating. It doesn't mean that we're not pissed off a lot and very unhappy a lot. And and and, you know, but we have to understand what your point was, which is if we just throw up our hands and go away, we're giving up on our country.
[00:47:00] We're giving our country away to incredibly evil ideas, evil, evil ideas. And and so we can't have it. The Mondamis of the world cannot be the future of this country. No, they absolutely cannot.
[00:47:18] And that's why it's so important that we're involved and that we stay involved every single day, whether it is knocking on doors, sending text messages, handwriting postcards, going to your local Republican Party meeting, signing up to be a poll watcher, a poll worker, being involved on a local campaign. Every single bit of it matters.
[00:47:38] And we are up against where we're you're you said a minute ago that the odds, essentially the odds are against us right now because it's a midterm election. And that is exactly true. But President Trump and his supporters have been able to defy history. And I think we can do it again if we all just get involved and stay active. I totally agree.
[00:48:00] And but it's only if people listening to this show and our friends, our families, the people we touch believe that and go out and work like President Trump said the other day. Pretend I'm on the ballot. OK, if it requires him to be on a ballot, he really is. The future of his presidency is on the ballot. That's a fact.
[00:48:23] OK, so go out, knock doors, go out and make the calls for the candidates, make a donation, give give some money to some of these key races. We are seeing polling now that is the best that we've seen. And it's going to get better. We are going to win some of these races. You know, if we pick up the Senate seat in Michigan and if we are able to pick up the Senate seat in New Hampshire,
[00:48:49] you know, Sununu, the former member of Congress is running for, you know, the Senate in New Hampshire. He could pick that seat up. That changes the dynamic. OK, just by doing those simple things, not simple things, but by doing those two things, picking up Michigan and New Hampshire. Makes it much more difficult for them to close the gap. And and that goes for the House, too.
[00:49:14] We can pick up seats in the House and that makes their math much more difficult. So we have to win these seats after we use the redistricting effort that we went through to our advantage. 100 percent. David Bossie, thank you so much for joining me today. I love this conversation.
