In 1999 Jiang Zemin, then the head of the Chinese Communist Party, outlawed Falun Gong, a meditation practice built on truth, compassion and forbearance that Janice Trey says had grown to tens of millions of practitioners. He was jealous of its popularity, she tells Jenny Beth Martin, and the laws were written to apply retroactively. The spies the Party sent into the practice found nothing wrong and often took up the exercises themselves. Then the Party found a business.
Practitioners do not drink and do not smoke. In a country where smoking is common among men, Trey says, that made their organs the healthiest available, and a transplant patient does not want a smoker's lung or a drinker's liver. So the healthiest people became the target: imprisoned, tortured, and, she says, killed on demand for their organs. She calls what followed the largest and longest peaceful resistance in history.
What she asks of American viewers is specific. The Falun Gong Protection Act passed the House, she says, and its Senate companion has cleared the Foreign Relations Committee. It would sanction the people directly involved in forced organ harvesting and require the State Department to report every year on whether it meets the definition of genocide. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, she notes, was the bill's original sponsor as a senator. American universities and hospitals, she says, must not be complicit. Jenny Beth Martin closes by stating plainly what the bill is about: organs taken from live bodies, not dead ones.
Guest: Janice Trey, chairman of the board of The Epoch Times and NTD, former CEO of The Epoch Times, former executive at five Fortune 500 and Global 500 companies, born in a forced labor camp during China's Cultural Revolution.
