Cultural Revolution: She Was a Child Laborer. Now She Chairs The Epoch Times | Janice Trey

Guest: Janice Trey is chairman of the board of The Epoch Times and NTD and the newspaper's immediate past CEO, a role she held until she found her successor. She was born in a forced labor camp during China's Cultural Revolution, where the Chinese Communist Party had sent her parents, both engineers, because they were educated. She came to the United States to study after the Tiananmen Square Massacre, earned two master's degrees, and served as an executive at five Fortune 500 and Global 500 companies. For nineteen years she and her husband, Dr. Torsten Trey, have worked to expose what the Party does to prisoners.

Key topics:

• Born in a forced labor camp: her parents were engineers sent to the countryside because they were educated

• First grade, second grade, third grade: cutting sugarcane, hauling fertilizer, and a bag of dropped crops that decided whether she could go to school

• One television for the entire camp, used twice: Mao Zedong's funeral and Zhou Enlai's funeral

• The grandfather who owned a bank, lost everything to the Party, and started over as a warehouse guard in Hong Kong

• A Christian school in Hong Kong at age ten, and the first time she heard a hymn instead of a song praising Mao

• Why communism sets children against parents and students against teachers, and why Trey says it survives on chaos

• Her mother's one question for every doctor: when did you train? If the answer is 1966 to 1976, she leaves

• Erase and replace: how the Party simplified Chinese characters and took the heart out of the word for love

• Seventy-seven years, a new target every era: landlords, the educated, the students of 1989, and Falun Gong since 1999

• Confucius Institutes in American schools, and the Party money Trey says the Department of Education found in US education

• Lawfare and paid inserts: China Daily in American newspapers, and why Trey says the New York Times coverage of a lawsuit against Shen Yun was orchestrated

• Wang Huning's America Against America: the playbook Trey says has guided three Chinese leaders

• Why Falun Gong practitioners are targeted for their organs, and the Falun Gong Protection Act now waiting on the Senate

• The one-child policy, and the difference between communism and totalitarianism

• North and South Korea, Taiwan and the mainland, Hong Kong: same people, different systems

• COVID, drones and power grids: why Trey says the Party sees the United States as an adversary by its existence

• Tiananmen Square, June 4, 1989, explained for young Americans who were never taught it

• The American dream from a labor camp to the boardroom, and the scorecard question Trey leaves for every American

• Calls to action: ask your senator to pass the Falun Gong Protection Act, and get out the vote at iwillsaveamerica.com

[00:00:00] The government came for her when she was a child, not for anything she or her parents had done wrong. The government of China decided an entire generation would be taken from their parents and put to work. And this is what they considered education. Welcome to the Jenny Beth Show. I'm Jenny Beth Martin, and this is our Surviving Communism series. Welcome to the Jenny Beth Show.

[00:00:37] I sat down with people from five countries who know what communism actually does. Today we learn more about what happened to them in communist countries, to their families, their food, their churches and their futures. Carmen Bergman was a child laborer during China's Cultural Revolution. She was put to work in the fields, and if she did not meet the daily quota, she was not allowed back to school.

[00:01:02] She had no idea there was another kind of life until one day, slips of paper fell out of the sky, dropped from balloons from Taiwan, describing cars, refrigerators and washing machines. She asked her parents what a car was. Entire camp had only one vehicle. It was a military truck. She survived that, and then she did something with it. Today, she chairs a board at Epoch Times and NTD. She has held executive roles at five four

[00:01:32] Fortune 500 companies, and for more than 19 years. She has worked to expose what the Chinese Communist Party does to prisoners. For that work, she's been physically attacked. She's had bomb threats. She's not stopped. Communism sacrifices a generation on purpose. The future it promises always has to be paid for by the people living right now. She was a little girl when they taught her that. Here's Janice Trey.

[00:02:01] Janice Trey. Janice, tell everyone what your background is, and before we get into the interview, I want to talk about the book sitting in your lap, and then we'll get in more details about the questions I have for you. Well, thank you, Jenny Beth, for having me at your studio. It's a pleasure to give a voice to the voiceless. I was born and raised in the Chinese labor camp. From labor camp and because of Tiananmen Square Massacre, I came to U.S. to study.

[00:02:29] I have two master's degrees. And also I have worked as an executive in five Fortune 500, global 500 company. And then I was the immediate past CEO for the Epoch Times. And then the chairman of the boards of the Epoch Times after I found my successor. Oh, that is very good. Now, and Epoch Times is amazing work. And you've got two books right there that are publications of the Epoch Times.

[00:02:58] Yeah. So the first one is called The Nine Commentaries of the Communist Party. This book is integrating the Chinese Communist Party. How? 466.35 million withdrew from the Chinese Communist Party. And this affiliated organization, the Youth Lead and the Young Pioneers. People see that as a sinking Titanic. They want to jump out of the Titanic before it sinks.

[00:03:25] So this is the book I would say most significant. And then the second book is called The Spectre of Communism, Ruin a World. Shows you how through every facet of society is being infiltrated by communisms. And they're volume one and volume two. And so I have one volume and Jenny Beth has the other volumes.

[00:03:48] And this is a book that shows even though you may see communism no longer in Europe, but it's just in a different form. And pretty much in Latin America and around the world, in Africa, you see the shadow of communism. And this is a book that will alarm us. Okay. So I encourage everyone, if you're not already signed up with Epoch Times, you should definitely sign up with them.

[00:04:16] They have great news articles. And then we've got to check out these books. I have not read them yet, so I'm going, I've got more reading material to add to my list. Okay, Janice, so today we're trying to talk a lot about personal experiences from people like you who have survived communism. And you just mentioned that you were in a child labor camp. What was that like? How old were you? So I was born during the Cultural Revolution.

[00:04:45] My parents were engineers. And just because they were educators, they were sent to forced labor camps, very remote. It would take two days of bus trips to get to the city. It was so remote that there was only one car and as a military car and there's no sitting. You'll stand in the open trucks and that's the only vehicles.

[00:05:14] And otherwise you just use bicycle. I was a forced child laborer, first grade, second grade, third grade. The school was one and a half hour walking by foot. No transportations. I walked past the cemetery, walked past the crop field, climbed the hills. The school was on the other side of the hill. My task every day was to brew the sugar cane on the top of the hill.

[00:05:41] And I carry fertilizers as if heavier than myself. Imagine first grade, second grade, third grade. And during harvest seasons, because they use manual harvest, so some crop drop on the field. So every day after school, I walk hours on the field to pick up any crop drop on the field.

[00:06:02] If I could not fill up a full plastic bag of crops, pick from the crop field, I would not be allowed to return to the school the next day. And when you were in this, your parents were somewhere else. So you were not with your parents, right? Or were you with your parents? My parents were, they were forced to do farming, do sewing, and do some other work.

[00:06:29] And then I went with my neighbors and walked past the cemetery, the crop field, and to the school because there was no transportation. Wow. And it was an hour there each day and an hour back, plus school, plus digging around on a field to find sugar cane to turn it in so you could go back to school the next day. Yeah. There was one and only one television set for the entire labor camp.

[00:06:58] There were only two times that the television was ever used. It was Mao Zedong's funeral and Zhou Enlai's funeral. And everybody must stand in front of the television wearing something black, and I don't have black clothes. So we took a piece of black cloth and cut out pieces and wrap around the shoulder. So my association of television was funeral and standing in front of funeral.

[00:07:28] So I have no idea until later on, after I escaped China, that their cartoons, their news. I mean, I was like fascinated. And I think that kind of planted the seeds. So when I was able to get out of China, I compared the textbooks of mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong for the same historic period.

[00:07:54] I found totally different story on the same period. So I had the quest of which versions was the truth. And I will give you an idea how I get out of China. My father is an engineer. He knows Einstein, believe in God. And he never had any opportunity to learn Christianity.

[00:08:21] My grandfather on my mother's side owned a bank before communism came to China. They robbed his bank, took away his antique collection, his paintings. So my grandfather fled to Hong Kong, restarted his career as a security guard in a warehouse because he had no place to stay. So he lived and work in a warehouse from owning a bank.

[00:08:47] Like, so my father sent me to Hong Kong to go to a Christian school so I can learn Christianity. And that was the first time I experienced, like, the hymns, you know, the pray and all that. And it was totally different compared to schooling in China, where every day we must sing the song. I love the Beijing Tiananmen, Mao Zedong is the rising sun.

[00:09:16] We were forced to sing. And during cultural revolutions, you cannot play classical music, sing classical music. I mean, they use popular melodies and all replaced with lyrics that praise communism. And you were forced to do that. How? Okay, I want to ask a few things with this.

[00:09:45] The grandfather who sent you to a different school, how old were you when that happened? I was 10. You were 10. And then how old were you when Mao died? It was before that, right? It was before that. Yeah, I didn't remember. I have to count the age. But, you know, I would say, you know, maybe I was younger, you know, just but I remember. Right. No, no, no.

[00:10:10] But you probably wouldn't have been able to go to that school, I would imagine, if Mao had still been alive, right? Yes. That was, even after Mao's death, they don't overnight end all the labor camps. Right. We were still there. Because in China, like, after you graduate from college, you were assigned a job. You don't have the free choices.

[00:10:38] So my parents are waiting for their next assignment. And so they got stuck in the very remote area. When they did this, when the Communist Party creates these labor camps for children, part of the reason is to separate the child from the parent, right?

[00:11:02] Because the child isn't supposed to be more devoted to the parent than they are the government. The government is the one who everyone is supposed to be the most devoted to. Yeah. So, you know, here in the United States, we have allegiance, you know, we have to pledge, you know, to be flat and all that. In the Communist Party, you have to show allegiance to the Communist Party.

[00:11:29] You put the Communist Party higher than your family, higher than faith. Essentially, communism is to erase faith and replace it. So it's not only atheistics, it's actually make communism the ultimate, highest level of authority. And so communism's survival is based on creating chaos and creating struggles.

[00:11:58] So creating conflicts between parents and children, between teachers and students. And during the Cultural Revolution, mobilize the students to fight against the professors.

[00:12:15] To mobilize students when they learn from school is like, explain, you know, kind of paint the picture of how bad the parents and so to turn the parents in. And so it's like unbelievable, but it was carrying out in a full scale.

[00:12:35] So when here in the United States, I do see shadows of communism when they were chaos created, when they were pay protests that are not organics. And they're looting in, you know, shops and, you know, all sorts of chaos. Because communism survived in chaos.

[00:13:05] And what I'm a proud naturalized American citizen. And it's so important to preserve the freedoms. This is the country that was, that America has built a point, pursuit of religious liberties, pursuit of freedoms. For 250 years, many people make a lot of sacrifices before us. So it's our turn to preserve it.

[00:13:35] As Benjamin Franklin said, the republics, if you can keep it. Yeah. So, and just like President Reagan talked about freedom, it's just like one generation away. And so it's a point to us. And so I applaud your work because you give freedom fighters a voice. Well, thank you very much. And I want to make sure that we're doing all we can to keep the republic. That's why we're doing this series.

[00:14:03] Because we want people to understand what communism actually looks like and how it plays out in somebody's life. What it is like. You were just mentioning the struggles and the chaos it creates. The parent and the child. The teacher and the child.

[00:14:21] Did you see or did this happen to you where you saw parents and children fighting with one another because of the government or children turning in their parents or the fights with the teacher and the child? And I know you were still very young as you were in that child labor camp. I understand that. Yeah. I was at the very young age. I have loving parents.

[00:14:49] So it did not affect me as much.

[00:14:54] However, I know friends and family members where they, I would say the more the, those like teenagers or college students, those were the one that were being mobilized to board on the train.

[00:15:24] And so people never went to Beijing. And so like they were, uh, the incentives and the fantasy. So I've seen people paying, paying Mousy Dong as if it was a God, like just the whole propaganda. And I saw the craziness. Like it's hard to comprehend.

[00:15:52] Why would people take such an extreme steps? But it was the environment. But it was the environment. And I think they were afraid of, uh, like the peer pressure. So if you are not like the others, then you will be single out.

[00:16:10] So my father told me how he saw his classmates and then the father was shot in front of the child and for nothing wrong, just because they own lands, they were landlords. And because, you know, just because they were educated and that's really create terror. So common sense, I'm subject to people to live under terror and have to sell censorships.

[00:16:40] And sometimes we don't understand the lasting impact. So my mom later on, like post cultural revolutions, if she sees a doctor, her first question is doctor, when did you receive your medical education? If the doctor received a medical education between 1966 to 1976, my mom will immediately say goodbye doctor.

[00:17:09] Because that was the 10 years of cultural revolutions. None of the medical school students learned from the medical professors. They were sent to labor camp. So they got the medical degrees, but they didn't learn anything. So my mom would not want to be treated by them. So it's the entire generations, the gaps.

[00:17:33] And so that's a systematic erosions of the culture, the values. And let me give you another example. Chinese characters have been existing for 5,000 years. There's no reasons to change the Chinese character. So the Chinese Communist Party, in the name of simplifications of the Chinese character, they modified it.

[00:17:59] For example, the character love is written as a roof. Underneath the roof, there were people intervining. In between the roof and the people, there was a character heart. So that's love. People under the roof with the heart. So what's the simplified Chinese character look like? The roof and the people, no heart. So there's a systematic destruction of culture.

[00:18:28] People are capable of learning the characters. There's no reason to change. Why do they change? Because they want the next generation not able to read scriptures and textbooks and literatures from the past. That's why they destroy the intercomerous rules. And they call like label four types of old stuff. Like basically, they want to destroy culture. They burn down temples. They burn down churches.

[00:18:57] I mean, in the Tang Dynasty, the emperor welcomed missionary to China and treated the missionary, you know, even into the palace. And like, it was just totally different compared to cultural revolutions they eliminated. So if you look at 50 years before China was awarded the Olympics, not a single church permit was allowed in the city of Beijing.

[00:19:26] Imagine how much business, how many tourists, they wouldn't allow a single church permit. And only when it was announced that Beijing will be hosting the Olympics, they start building up churches because they want the window dress. So even Secretary Condi Rice, when she went to China and make a point to attend church.

[00:19:48] However, do you think those people in the church, the real church goers, they act as an actress? Because they would not want them to have any opportunity to be with Condi Rice. So it's the systematic control. They want to control your mind. They want to control your possessions. They literally take away the possession.

[00:20:13] Like during my mom's young days, because my grandfather had a successful banking business. And he sent her to Catholic school, Catholic school. And there was a chauffeur taking her to school. And when communism came, like no more Catholic school.

[00:20:40] And then took away the paintings, all the money in the bank, and they shut down the bank. I mean, imagine how many other business and how many lands and all that. So my great-grandfather was a very successful herbal doctor. And he was educated. He was a doctor. But luckily, because he treated so many patients.

[00:21:08] So when so-called the Red Guards, they want to attack him, they protected him because they needed him to heal. So I mean, otherwise, he would have been killed. It would have been like the landlord. Yes. Because they didn't have to protect his knowledge. They wanted to take his property. So they just killed him to take the property. Yeah. So the food rationing was very extensive. Talk about that.

[00:21:36] So my sister-in-law's uncle died of starvation. My sister-in-law's mom and brothers and that generation have lands. They grow their own vegetables. And when communism took over, you know, they mobilized the farmers to take over the lands from the landlords.

[00:22:04] And so when all the lands are in the hands of the communist party, then they start food rationing. The Greek famines, they did crazy things. You know, they killed the sparrows, but the sparrows, you know, eat the insects. So there is a good ecosystem. And they worry about people who rebel. So they make everybody turn in anything like iron pots or iron pans.

[00:22:33] They worry like if you have metal, you may make weapons and stuff. And they gather all that. So it's bizarre. But that's because communism's one and only one goal is about power. It's keep the power to itself. If you look at the 77 years of the Chinese communist rule, you see a pattern.

[00:23:02] The first wave was mobilize the farmers against the land law. Farmers redistribute land they never did. And the land in the hands of the communist party, then they start food rationing. Then 1966 to 76, cultural revolution. So the first group was landlords being targeted. The second group were educated people being targeted. Nothing wrong to be a doctor. It has to be engineers.

[00:23:29] Teachers, because you are educated, you may speak up against communism. So they want to silence you. Cultural revolution. 1989, Tiananmen Square Massacre. Students have no weapons. They roll out the tank. And my best friend was studying in medical school in Beijing. And he worked on the ambulance. He personally took dozens of dead bodies.

[00:23:59] I mean, the escape was far reaching. They even used surveillance camera to get the people who escaped from the square. It was pervasive. And then 1999, another innocent group of people being targeted. So this time was the Falun Gong practitioner because they believe in truth, compassion, forbearance. Those are universal values.

[00:24:25] The truth is more like the Taoist principle, compassion, like the Buddhist principles, and then tolerance, like the Confucius principles. The Communist Party had the very intentional actions to remove culture, to keep people away from knowing the past. Because they want to erase and replace with communism.

[00:24:49] So there's a big group of people who believe in truth, compassion, forbearance, and they live up those virtues. Comparisonists are very afraid of people who speak up the truth because they use lies and propaganda. They are afraid of people who are compassionate because they use violence. So it's like good and evil is a stark contrast. You know, they burn the Confucius statues, you know.

[00:25:19] So, but then they will use it. Here in America. Yes. In the name of Confucius Institutes to, in the name of teaching Chinese, they actually teach Chinese propaganda. I have seen the textbooks of the Confucius Institutes and it's full of propaganda. They even teach song to students that praise the Communist Party.

[00:25:47] So people like me, first language, Chinese, I'm fully capable of teaching Americans Chinese. They will never hire me because I'm a freedom fighter. They only want to, they only hire people strictly from China or people who go with the Chinese propaganda because the goal is not about teaching Chinese in the name of teaching Chinese.

[00:26:14] So those are like implants into high school, into universities. The Department of Education counted $1.5 billion of Chinese Communist Party's and affiliate organizations money into education sectors from 2014 for the six years. And then when the Confucius Institute. Say how much money that was? $1.5 billion.

[00:26:40] And when the Confucius Institutes were shut down in some schools, they were refund of money. Just by looking at the refunds, many of those, they know of $1 million individual schools. So imagine. And even if you look at, you know, let's say, Tufts University is one of the top universities, one of the top two Fletcher School teaching diplomats.

[00:27:10] There was the Confucius Institutes and then there was a specific partnership with Beijing's normal universities. And they lasted for a number of years. And even when Tufts University announced to shut down, it took another six months to wind down. And imagined that that's really, that was only the tip of the iceberg.

[00:27:39] Communism has infiltrated into American society the typical tactics of lawfare. The first lawsuit, because they leveraged the legal system in America. Even though they may not win the lawsuit eventually, but the damage would have been cast. And not everyone have the money to fight. So that's lawfare.

[00:28:08] And so don't be surprised. Some of those lawsuits, you wonder who's behind them. And let me give you an example. There's a former dancer of Shen Yun Performing Arts. Her name is Coco Chan from Taiwan. She has like, I would say, very modest, you know, income and family.

[00:28:36] And when her visa expired, she was not allowed to come back. And so her career at Shen Yun ended. In the beginning, she was very favorable to Shen Yun. And she even thought of like setting up a dance studio and teaching students and so on and so forth. And Shen Yun is a dancing that we see billboards around the country for. Shen Yun is the classical Chinese dance and music company.

[00:29:05] They have eight trips touring around the world, reaching 20 countries, 200 cities, each year reaching a million or so. And so in the past years, they have reached over 10 million. It is a U.S. company based in upstate New York. And with 20 years of history, what Shen Yun means is the dance of the divine beauty.

[00:29:28] So Shen Yun is intended to bring the 5,000 years of civilization before communism. So Coco had a lawsuit against Shen Yun. And who paid for that? So if you look at the legal representation, three major law firms represent her. Where did she get the money?

[00:29:54] And so she married a Chinese and she had partnership with, and she went to Beijing and she had partnership with the Beijing Academy. So that was really what's behind. Right. Right. And, but how that story get magnified was because New York Times, Nicole Hong wrote about it.

[00:30:23] So for people who are less familiar with Nicole Hong, Nicole Hong was the one who, when she was at Washington Journal, she got trumped the lawsuits and the hush money and all that and won the Pulitzer Prize. And then when she went to New York Times, within that eight months period, she wrote more than 10 articles attacking Shen Yun. And then brought out the Coco's case.

[00:30:51] In fact, New York Times will report about the case with less than 10 minutes when the case was filed with full page articles and everything.

[00:31:04] And in fact, when New York Times sent the, send kind of a, not quite a preview, but certain, you know, ask some questions to, to people being named in that, you know, from the Shen Yun, the dance faculties. They have not even finished reading it. The article was published. It's like, who will publish the articles within 10 minutes of a case filing? So you can see all orchestrators.

[00:31:32] So Nicole Hong's father, George Hong, works for the United Front. So on the websites of George Hong, you show that it was an honorary position, but it's really part of the United Front. And you saw a picture of him with, you know, senior leaders of the Chinese Communist Party.

[00:31:53] The main thing is Nicole Hong did not disclose the relationship of his father, did not disclose that Coco, you know, the plaintiff in the case, have a partnership with the Beijing economy that's a competitor of Shen Yun and went to China. All that.

[00:32:15] So, and not only that, New York Times will use bots, computer generator bots, like thousands of, tens of thousands of those, and make Nicole Hong's article the most read New York Times articles during election year 2024. You know, that's not possible.

[00:32:34] So finally, X found that those, at least removed more than 10,000 artificial bots that promoted the articles, make it so wide read. And if you trace back those, those accounts have only one and only one function, have like literally no followers, no more than three, and then have no other posting, but only post Nicole Hong's article.

[00:32:58] So we have to be aware of the systematic encroachment. You know, the real playbook is America's Against America. And that was authored by Huang Huning. Huang Huning is on the Chinese Politburo. So in the Chinese governing systems, there are seven members in the Politburo. That's the highest governing body. And Huang Huning wrote the books in 1989.

[00:33:27] So for the past 37 years, he has been the shadow strategy architect for Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Xi Jinping. None of us here in the United States have that type of influence. Influence 37 years, free leaders, and using the playbooks, America's Against America. So let me give you an example in the media sites.

[00:33:57] Quite a number of the media have run China Daily, which is the Chinese Communist Party's mouthpiece. They run them as inserts. So if you not pay attention to the header, you will not know that it was a pay insert because it does not read like advertisement. You will thought that they were just written by the papers, journalists.

[00:34:26] So Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today, our register, and then the paper in Belgium, the paper in Australia. They all have run inserts. So people not paying attention to systematic erosions of our freedom.

[00:34:53] You know, press freedom is very precious for us. And then internet freedoms, there's another, there's a great firewall in China. So if you search Jiang Zemin in China, you will not, you find civil search. How could a head of Communist Party, head of state, head of military have civil search?

[00:35:17] And his son, Jiang Zemin, Jiang Mianhan, was actually head of the China Research Institute because they have not quite figured out ways to only deliver good news. So they found civil search. And you may wonder, how did Jiang Zemin came to power? It was because 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre, there were widespread student protests across the country.

[00:35:47] And Jiang Zemin was mayor of Shanghai. Overnight, he was so successful in crackdown student movement in Shanghai, he caught attention in Beijing, and then he got promoted to the top jobs. And Jiang Zemin's background, his father worked for the Japanese government, was a trader, betrayed China. So during China, Japan war, Jiang Zemin played his piano. During wartime, you don't have that luxury.

[00:36:16] And Jiang Zemin went to the extent of asking chairman of Citibank to write a biography of Jiang Zemin. Americans, how much we know, but it's just a pre-written, most likely a pre-written book sentence, have someone's signatures to justify it. And Jiang Zemin was notorious for starting the persecution on Falun Gong.

[00:36:42] He was jealous about the founder of Falun Gong's popularity and the growth, you know, to 70 to 100 million people practice Falun Gong. And Jiang Zemin, when he had a visit, a state visit in France, and then he declared Falun Gong was illegal, and then to create laws to apply retroactively. There was nothing wrong about Falun Gong.

[00:37:07] And in fact, there are many, over the years, they have sent a lot of spies into the Falun Gong communities, but actually many of those find that there was nothing wrong and they learned the exercise and they found significant improvement in the health benefits. There were four major health surveys, each of those over 10,000 survey participants. The health improvement rates was north of 96%.

[00:37:37] And I knew two people who have infertility problems, and after they practice and they have kids, and one of them even, one of the girls become a beauty pageant, you know. So there are people with like terminal stage of cancers and all sorts of health issues. Because it's really about cleansing the body, elevates your body's health and wellness.

[00:38:05] And so it's a significant benefit. That's why despite the brutal persecutions, there were no extinction of Falun Gong. In fact, it was recognized by 110 countries. There are thousands of programmations. And what the Chinese Communist Party sees a money-making opportunity on Falun Gong, because they don't drink, they don't smoke. So their organs are the healthiest. In China, smoking is very prevalent among men.

[00:38:35] And in organ transplant, you don't want an alcoholic person's liver or kidney. You don't want a smoker's lung. So just because Falun Gong practitioners are healthier, they become the target. So the torture, the imprisonment, but actually it really becomes the largest and the longest

[00:39:00] civil resistance and the peaceful resistance in history. Imagine 70 to 100 million since July 1999. Peaceful resistance. I mean, to me, that is something very admirable and very heroic. And so it is really important when U.S. governments engage not only just with the leaders, but with the grassroots.

[00:39:30] For example, there is a unique opportunity right now, you know, to have your senators, you know, help pass Senate Bill 4009 is the False Organ Harvesting Victims and Falun Gong Protection Act, put sanctions on people directly involved in killing people on demand for their organs, and have the state departments to report annually about the situations

[00:39:56] and determine if this fits into genocides, conventions, definition of genocides. Secretary Rubio is ready to implement that. In fact, he was the original initiator of the bill when he was then senator. And so we are very close. The Companion Bill 1540 unanimously passed in the House, Senate Bill 4009 already passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

[00:40:26] There's wide support on that. So we just need your help to ask your senator to push through the finishing line. Any perpetrators should be held accountable because U.S. universities, U.S. hospitals, you don't want that to be complicit about that. And we need to put a stop.

[00:40:52] When human body becomes part, you know, when medicine becomes like being used in the assembly line of death, human dignity is being erased. And that is the fundamental destructions of humanity and really silence no more.

[00:41:19] Okay. Let me I want to go back to a few items. And our interview today, I have to be very respectful of your time because you have to be able to leave to go catch a flight. So I'm just saying that so the audience knows that we're trying to squeeze a lot in. But before I go to the things I want to talk about, let's just quickly elaborate on what you were just saying. The bill in the Senate is what is the number? Senate Bill 4009.

[00:41:48] 4-0-0-9. This is a forced organ harvesting act. And what you were saying, it's a foolong. Did I pronounce that properly? Falangol. Practitioners who are very, very healthy because of because of what they are practicing.

[00:42:09] And as horrific as it is for Americans to hear this, their bodies have been and are being used for organ harvesting. Live bodies, not dead bodies. And that's what you're trying to work on with this bill. And I think that, well, we are going to be interviewing your husband and we'll get more into that with him.

[00:42:37] So as you're watching, if you want more, we already have one interview with Janice in our archive and we'll make sure that we link to it. So that goes into a lot of detail about this bill. And then we're going to be interviewing her husband. And I'm sure he'll be talking about it as well. So we're not ignoring it. I want to go back into a few other things related to the cultural revolution.

[00:43:01] And I just want to point out the problem that you mentioned before about communism. Communism has to reign and be superior to all. That's there's communism and then there's totalitarianism. And what you're talking about with the organ harvesting is that totalitarian aspect that communism can evolve to.

[00:43:26] And it's because there is no respect for the individual and there's no respect for the family. The government and the power to the government is everything that matters. They were willing to sacrifice you as children during the cultural revolution in order to make sure that the future generations were taken care of. They were willing to sacrifice.

[00:43:51] Well, they had the one child policy, which means families across the entire country were having to sacrifice their own children, which we it's hard to imagine. Like we have the the pro-life abortion debate in America. This is completely different because it is no longer a choice. It is forced. It was forced. It was forced upon people.

[00:44:16] And then in the in they did that because they said we have to start. Essentially, we must sacrifice these babies in order to protect the future generation and the future for. For for for communism in China at large. It's it's just it's sickening. Um, you talk I'd like to elaborate on on two things very specifically.

[00:44:45] Um, you said earlier the phrase erase and replace that they come in and they erase and they replace. And it seems that socialism always requires reeducating. So it's that erasing and replacing. And, um. I'm pretty sure that this is also part of what happened in the Soviet Union.

[00:45:09] And then it the China adopted what would Lenin and and Marx and Lenin and Stalin were doing and an advocate. Marx was advocating for and the other two were implementing in the Soviet Union. Um, why is it so important that they erase what is known and and replace it? Yeah. So communism is antichrist. Communism.

[00:45:38] We want to erase all faith and then replace as a as the superior authority. 5,000 years there were no communism in China. China prospers for 5,000 years only the past 77 years. If you compare North America and North Korea and South Korea, they're Koreans. You're probably willing to go to South Korea, but you would not want to be in North Korea.

[00:46:06] I mean, they're Koreans, but they said different. One is. Communistic, totalitarianism. The other one is democratic society. If you compare Taiwan and mainland China, they are Chinese. Same Chinese. There's no difference in the people. The only difference? Taiwan is a democratic society and China is a communist. If you look, compare the GDP of Taiwan versus China, it's a several times difference.

[00:46:37] You know, you may wonder why China want to take over Taiwan. Taiwan is just a small island because the existence of Taiwan as a democratic society, because China's communist propaganda has been spreading the lies that democracy is only for Westerners. China. And if you look at Hong Kong, which was a British colony and Margaret Thatcher signed 50 years in one country to system.

[00:47:08] China in Hong Kong has rewrote the freedoms and, in fact, you know, have very heavy sentences for the very basic rights that was protected on one country to system. That really showed you that communist regime will not allow democracy. Communism and freedoms do not coexist.

[00:47:35] That's why they want to erase and replace with communism. And so in the eyes of Communist Party, U.S. must be gone because for Communist Party to exist long term, freedom leaders like United States is the adversary. It's the sheer existence. They want to conquer. They want to eliminate.

[00:48:02] That's why they want to take over Taiwan at all costs. They want to suppress. Suppressed, like we heard about the umbrella movement in Hong Kong. I mean, they were peaceful, just holding the umbrellas and they get persecuted, you know. So even those who escaped, you know, to Canada, to other parts of the world, they trying to catch those, you know, student leaders.

[00:48:24] So for us, we have to look at China was well aware of COVID being contagious before the Chinese Lunar New Year. Where a lot of people gathering is kind of like Thanksgiving. People come home and, you know, at a reunion and all that. And there are banquets and all that. China could have informed the citizens, like don't have those big gatherings, avoid the spread.

[00:48:51] They did not because they don't care about the lives of some citizens. So they will not protect American citizens or American business in China. We have to wake up from that because they knew it was contagious and they started lockdown. But they let Chinese flew out of China to spread COVID.

[00:49:13] So we have to realize that like poisons, the nature of poison is poisonous. It's just a matter of time. And we have to be aware of the stale invasion from the Communist Party, maybe in the name of socialism, in the name of funding the different groups, funding the different protests. Imagine if China, China is one of the largest producers on drones.

[00:49:40] And if China using drones technology to spread poison into water reservoirs, onto agriculture lands or attack power grids, we are very vulnerable. And there were attempts of attacking and trying to create, you know, using cybersecurity and all those. Imagine if our power for two weeks, the banks will be shut down and we'll be in chaos.

[00:50:09] And so, you know, we're very, very, very, very thriving during chaotic times. And that's how they survive. And so earlier, talk about the seven decades. Every decade or so, the innocent group of people being targeted. So we need to be alert and alarm of how Americans' freedoms are being encroached. And think of like a wolf in a sheep's clothing.

[00:50:39] And so we need to see what's behind. And, you know, so maybe in the different name, in the different party, you should ask the five wives, you know, who's really behind it? What's the end games? What can we do about it? We don't want to be too late. Have we stopped COVID earlier? More lives will have been saved. Have we stopped, you know, the propaganda or be very alert?

[00:51:09] So maybe some media may not give you the truth because they have either advertisements or inserts that they have other, you know, relationships that's invisible to you. So we just have to be alert. And that's why the books that we talk about at the beginning of the shows, those are books that will help us understand more.

[00:51:33] And I will also encourage the audience to check out the new documentary called China's Stile Invasion by Luminous Film. And it was very comprehensive, about one hour long, that interview American experts and showing, you know, FBI is having every couple minutes a new case, you know, about China's explanation and all that. So you will see all the different evidences.

[00:52:03] And the ultimate goal is to, we want to make informed decisions. Yes. And that's what media is supposed to do. But not all the media, like Janice Beth shows that we're really trying to show content that some other media shy away from reporting.

[00:52:25] So we need to stand up and we need to protect our freedom, religious freedom, press freedom, internet freedoms, individual freedoms. And for all the freedom fighters, last but not least, I just share this one tool, the most secure communication tool called SafeMeet. S-A-F-E-M-E-E-T. You can download from Apple App Store or Google Play Store. It's one single app with five functions.

[00:52:53] You can do voice call, messaging, video conferencing, file storage and file sharing in one single app. The decryption keys are stored only on the user device. All the hacking are done remotely. So they don't have your physical device. They cannot hack it. And there's no backdoor. So even the SafeMeet developers never see your content because it's frame-by-frame encryption, end-to-end encryptions.

[00:53:17] Real-time, the content will only store on your phone or your desktop and laptops. And so for freedom fighters, we need a secure communication tool. And I would imagine like one day if a billion people can study Bible together, for those who believe the creators, people should be given the very basic choice to be reconnected to divinity.

[00:53:45] And right now, there are lots of regimes around the world using all sorts of labels that they're trying to suppress. And so this is a tool that I personally use it. My friends use it. My family use it. My colleagues use it. And I think it's something very useful to connect. All right. Let me go back to one more thing. And then I know we have to be able to get on a flight. So I have three more questions. One might take a minute.

[00:54:15] And that is you talked about Tiananmen Square. If we're able to get our interview and a clip into the eyes of somebody who is younger, they're not going to know what Tiananmen Square is. When you see it to me, I know. I can think of the tank man, the tank and the man standing up against the tank and the destruction there. And I actually had a friend who was visiting China at the time.

[00:54:46] And his parents were totally freaked out when they found out he was kind of near Tiananmen Square during the time. But young people today don't understand. So explain what it is and what happened with that. And that it was just it was young people. It was college students. Yeah. So Tiananmen Square massacre, it happened June 4th, 1989. So students have been protesting and won democracy.

[00:55:13] And China under Deng Xiaoping was they moved towards more open door policy, welcome investments. And remember 1989? That was the same year when Berlin Wall came down. The red curtain in Russia and also Eastern Europe. It was the same period where those Eastern Europe and East Germany transition from a communistic rule to a new communistic rule.

[00:55:41] China was presented with the exact opportunity. But Jiang Zemin took a different approach and crushed that. And so China has an extensive underground network because they plan for nuclear war. And so underground has better protections from the radiation. And so you saw the tank came up out of nowhere.

[00:56:08] You didn't see satellite images of they travel far away. They could just came up. And I have a personal friend, colleagues, who was one of the student protesters. And he had the he was doing he was like they were on shift and he was so exhausted because he's been there for like many hours. He just went back to the dorm to take a nap.

[00:56:37] And that's when the tank blew out. It was a narrow escape. And so and then my my my best friends, you know, medical school students and work on the ambulance. And it was so dramatic that he could not continue the medical school. He he he he switched to research because the casualties, you know. So students with their weapons.

[00:57:07] We need to remember Chinese Communist Party kill its own citizens, kill students. I mean, the students are the future peers of the society. And if you study in Beijing, I mean, it's extremely difficult to get into the universities in Beijing is you are the cream of the creams and you want to just kill them. And you mentioned about people next generation don't know about that.

[00:57:33] My cousins in China have no idea about the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Right. Because they suppress the information. Yeah. So in China, they suppress the information. And here we haven't taught it. And we wind up with the same effect either way. They don't understand the danger. We just have to give the voice to the voiceless. I'm lucky to be in front of you alive. I could have been killed in a cultural revolution.

[00:58:01] I could have been killed during the Tiananmen Square Massacre. So I am committed to give a voice to voiceless, despite, you know, the death threats and all the different things that they trying to censor me. They trying to kill me. But freedom is worth fighting. It's just like lighting a candle in a dark room. Without that candle, people don't see the hope. And United States of America is the beacon of hope.

[00:58:29] And, you know, with tyrannies, we have to fight people inside China and people in other to the tyrann regimes. And they need our help. You know, I would say in some way, United States, America is like an international police in some ways. God has given us the resources. We can lend a hand to help.

[00:58:54] And there's a possibility and peace when communism is eliminated from the face of Earth. Because the nature of it is poison, it's evil, it's against humanity. And it's a point that to use our resources, our opportunity to share the words and share, help people make informed decisions. People have the choice.

[00:59:24] And we treasure our choice. We treasure the opportunity to vote. We treasure the opportunity to speak up when others who speak up, you know, will be met with, you know, assassinations. And so I am grateful to be American citizens.

[00:59:42] I'm grateful for what United States of America offer me, the freedoms and, you know, from a forced child labor camp to become CEOs and also executives for, you know, five Fortune 500 companies, global 500 companies. That's the American dreams. I think only in the United States of America that you can build something from nothing.

[01:00:09] And so I want to encourage every one of you, we can definitely do more. And before it's too late, the world is not short of perpetrators. It's short of people being, too many people being silenced. When people are silenced, then the crimes against humanity get spread. It's just like cancer cells. You want to stop the cancer. Otherwise, cancer cell will only multiply.

[01:00:38] Poison will only become poisonous. So we have to stop the evil. And goodness is what we are born with and what we want. Our children, our grandchildren, we want our neighbors, we want world peace. And we can do it. It's not that difficult. I mean, because here we are in a free country. We have the tools to do that.

[01:01:05] What happens if we lose our freedom here in America? What does it mean for the rest of the world? The beacon of hope is just like a candle being wiped out. So, and also for America's, you know, I'm a mom and I look at my son and it's like, I am very concerned. Because freedom is eroding in different formats.

[01:01:34] You know, you see the protests at different universities. Those are not organic protests. There's somebody paying the protesters. And even maybe a union strike, you know, those holding the signs. Not all of them are workers. Some are paid to do that. So, we have to be alarmed, be alert of who's behind it.

[01:02:00] And, you know, because we live in a free country, say a city council meetings or school board meetings. Some of those may be a plant, maybe somebody behind to infiltrate our education system, to impact our children, our grandchildren. And so, it's very, very dangerous. I think we are on the verge.

[01:02:28] If we don't speak up, if we don't preserve the freedom, imagine, you know, if tomorrow is the final judgment date. But, what's your scorecard? What's your report card? What have you done to preserve the freedoms? You know, we are created by the creators. And so, the opportunity to reconnect with the divinity, not only for yourself, but enable other people.

[01:02:58] And that's why tools like Save Me could help a billion people study Bible together. They don't have to, but it's a tool they can use. They can communicate. And we're now subject to the censorship. It's without, you know, being persecuted, you know, and a way to get their voice, their stories out. And so, for the past 250 years, America has been prosperous.

[01:03:26] And it's the land that people around the world want to come. It's the freedom that we all cherish. But freedom is just like one generation away from extinction. So, we have to fight for it. And I think we have to take the opportunity, you know, go out to vote. I mean, I have heard that 97% of Muslims vote, but only 30% of Christians vote.

[01:03:54] So, if we don't have the turnouts, I'm not telling people what to vote. But at least exercise your rights and your opportunity and to express and to, you know, to understand and to, you know, don't let that freedom be taken away. And remember, during COVID times, all the shutdown and all that, it's taking away freedom. It's taking away opportunity to go to church, taking away opportunity to gather.

[01:04:25] Sometimes they may come in different form. And what if tomorrow there's another biochemical weapon? And so, before another crisis happens, I always look at that time is a precious commodity. Everyone have 24 hours a day, not a second more, not a second less. What's the highest return on investment on time?

[01:04:51] And I would say let's just cherish our talents, our skill sets, our opportunity, and do the best we can to better the societies and to preserve freedoms. Because freedom is the foundation. With freedoms, then everything else can be built upon.

[01:05:17] And without freedoms, it's a survival mode. So I hope you continue to bring this freedom message to all the audience. And I hope all the audience, you know, spread the word so more people know about how precious and how much we are on the verge of losing it.

[01:05:40] And we don't want to get to a point that's too late, a point of no returns. Right now, we have a chance. We can do it. We can do it together. It's just take joining hands.

[01:05:56] If I could make it from a forced child laborer to where I am, all of you have more connections, have more resources, have more tools, have more friends and network, and that you can do something.

[01:06:16] And for yourself, for your family, for your children, for your colleagues, for the countries, and what type of scorecard you want to leave behind. Janice Trey, thank you so much for joining me today. Thank you, Jenny Beth. That was Janice Trey. Her husband is also in this series, Dr. Torsten Trey. He did not grow up under communism. He grew up in West Germany watching communism from the free side of a divided country.
