Senate Democrats went on record saying they support voter ID. Then Republicans gave them two separate chances to prove it — clean, standalone voter ID votes. Both times, every single Democrat voted no. Including Senator Fetterman, who had specifically promised he would support a standalone voter ID bill.
Cleta Mitchell, founder of the Election Integrity Network, explains exactly what's in the SAVE America Act:
1. Documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote
2. Photo ID required to cast a ballot (in-person or by mail)
3. Every state must submit voter rolls to DHS for comparison against federal citizenship and Social Security databases
The bill passed the House in early February with all Republicans plus one Democrat. It has been blocked in the Senate ever since — not because it lacks the votes to pass, but because Senate leadership has refused to force the issue.
90% of Americans support voter ID. This is not an extreme position. So why can't we get it passed?
