Full Description:
Most people know Good Friday. Far fewer understand what actually happened on it. Rev. James Mooneyhan walks through the full account from Luke 23 — the Jewish council, Pontius Pilate's interrogation, the famous handwashing scene, and what crucifixion was designed to do to a human body.
Crucifixion was not just an execution. It was a slow, suffocating death that could last for days. Rev. Mooneyhan explains the physiology — how the weight of the body eventually collapsed the diaphragm — and puts it alongside the moment Jesus looked down from the cross and said: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Who does that? On this Good Friday, that question deserves an answer.
What you'll learn:
- Why the Jewish council handed Jesus to Pilate instead of handling the case themselves
- What Pilate's handwashing actually meant — and why it didn't absolve him
- What crucifixion was, how it worked, and why Rome used it
- Luke 23:32-43: the scene at the Place of the Skull
- Jesus's first words from the cross: a prayer for those killing Him
