Dr. John Littell has practiced family medicine since 1990. He has hospital privileges in two Florida cities, he was an Army physician for seven years, and during the pandemic he was one of a very small number of American doctors treating COVID patients with early, off-label therapy while hospitals, pharmacies, and medical boards worked to stop him. He walked wards where respiratory therapists quietly told him patients were going on ventilators too fast. He made house calls to people who were afraid to go in at all. And he organized the doctors who found each other on a twelve-person Zoom call into the meeting in San Juan that produced the Rome Declaration.
This is the full conversation with Jenny Beth Martin: what he saw inside those hospitals, what it cost him to say so out loud, and why he believes the next generation will never tolerate it again.
Guest: Dr. John Littell, board certified family physician in Ocala, Florida, in practice since 1990, former Army physician, and author of The Hidden Truth.
Today's topics:
• Why he says the exam room is sacred ground, and the paper he wrote on the patient physician relationship for a group of Republican physician congressmen
• The Medicare annual wellness visit he demonstrated live on Congressman Pete Sessions, and why he calls it the Obamacare Medicare nightmare
• The hospital that told its own doctors in 2021 they no longer needed to walk into a COVID patient's room, just call in or use Zoom
• The chief executive who disciplined him for walking a hallway without a mask and told him doctors needed to be lockstep on policy
• The nurse who cared for the county's first COVID fatality for twelve straight hours and was refused a test at the hospital where she had worked for twenty years
• The twelve doctors on the Zoom call, the Last Supper hanging behind one of them, and why he believes they were handed a mission
• Respiratory therapists telling him in the hallways that patients were being put on ventilators too quickly
• Patients whose normal oxygen saturation was already 85 percent being put on BiPAP, and what that did to lungs that had gone brittle
• What the frontline protocol actually was: ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, high dose steroids, blood thinners for the clotting, montelukast, colchicine, inhaled budesonide, antihistamines
• Off label prescribing explained in plain English, from trazodone for insomnia to quinine from the cinchona tree to ivermectin's origin in a soil fungus
• Guantanamo Bay in 1992, the Haitian refugees picked up at sea, and the triage that came closest to what he saw in COVID hospitals
• Labor Day weekend 2020 in San Juan, the declaration that came out of that room, and Robert Malone carrying it to Rome
• Three weeks of planning, the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, and the first COVID summit crowd they had to turn people away from
• Handing the declaration to Governor Ron DeSantis in person and asking him to read it
• Dr. Kat Lindley taking over the doctors' Zoom calls, and the network that grew out of them
• The new mother, hypoxic with her baby in the crib beside her, and the ivermectin he carried into that room in his own pocket
• The mayor who got the full therapeutic dose from the hospital formulary and was duck hunting a week later
• His best friend, remdesivir instead of ivermectin, the priest who took off a glove to anoint him, and the security alert the hospital placed on the family afterward
• The letters institutions mailed him, and the medical board that called him unprofessional for warning that children would be harmed
• Montana and Michigan in the 1990s: labeled an impaired provider for being too zealous, blackballed as a pro-life physician, and put in the National Practitioner Data Bank
• The two pro-life physicians in Kissimmee who wrote letters in 1997 so he could get a Florida license, and why he calls Florida his refuge
• The calls he got about coming to Washington after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became secretary, and why he told them no
• Jenny Beth Martin on the white coat event at the Supreme Court with Dr. Simone Gold, the letter to the White House, and how the doctor networks were built
• Anthony Fauci's diaries, obtained by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and made public through Senator Rand Paul, and what a frontline doctor reads in them
• Why he says his kids' generation will never sit still for it again
