Jeanne Ives, former Illinois state representative and CEO of Breakthrough Ideas, walks through the viral comparison she posted on X: Ron DeSantis and JB Pritzker have each now signed their eighth state budget, and the two states tell opposite stories. Florida has 1.8 times the people of Illinois, roughly 23.4 million to 12.7 million, yet Florida's all-in budget of about 117 billion dollars is lower than Illinois's 130 billion. Florida has no state income tax and is moving on property taxes; Illinois has a state income tax and the highest property taxes in the country. DeSantis retired debt and returned about 9.7 billion dollars to taxpayers; Pritzker's Illinois has raised taxes by more than 77 billion dollars over the same stretch.
Ives's biggest takeaway is not about the governors. It is about the voters: people in blue states have to believe their vote matters, show up, and change the direction of their state, because DeSantis barely won his first race and delivered a landslide four years later once the policies worked. As the founders designed it, fifty states running fifty experiments lets every American judge the results.
Take action: call 202-224-3121 and tell both of your senators to pass the SAVE America Act. More at jennybethshow.com and teapartypatriots.org.
