Cuban Refugee Family: Her Parents Waited 10 Years to Have Children | Driena Sixto

Cuban refugees: her parents stayed married ten years and would not have a child until they got out. Driena Sixto tells the whole story.
Driena Sixto's grandparents left Franco's Spain for Cuba, built businesses and bought property there, and lost all of it when Fidel Castro took power. Her father was arrested on the island as a political dissident, walked into the United States embassy after he was released, and came here on a refugee visa he has never used to go back. Jenny Beth Martin sits down with her for the full story, from Hialeah to Turning Point USA to running Spanish-language media, and the line Sixto keeps returning to: freedom can be lost in a single generation, so every generation has to do its part to keep it.
Guest: Driena Sixto, Spanish Media Director at the Lincoln Media Foundation, who hosts a weekly Spanish-language news program on Claro y Directo América and spent six years with Turning Point USA before helping build the voter registration and ballot chasing operation at Turning Point Action.
Today's topics:
• The family line that ran from Franco's Spain to Cuba to the United States, and what Fidel Castro took from them on the way
• Her father arrested as a political dissident, and the refugee visa he obtained at the United States embassy after his release
• Why her parents stayed married ten years in Cuba and refused to have children until they could leave the country
• Growing up in Hialeah, the city with the largest Cuban population of any city outside Cuba, and what Sixto calls Cuba with freedom
• Why Cuban Americans are the only Latino bloc that votes majority Republican, and why Miami votes the way it does
• Ten years in the movement: Turning Point USA starting in 2016, then building the registration and ballot chasing operation at Turning Point Action
• Why Sixto says the right ceded Spanish-language media to Univision and Telemundo for decades, and what that cost
• Using artificial intelligence to translate and dub American political clips so Spanish speakers hear it in their own language instead of reading captions
• Why she argues Latino voters are already conservative by upbringing and mainly need the facts in the language they think in
• Assimilation, and why she says learning English is a matter of respect while losing the mother tongue is still a disadvantage
• Meeting young voters in short reels and on TikTok, and why she says Republicans were wrong to stay off the platform
• Her case for abolishing the Department of Education and ending federal student loans and federal student grants
• Holding universities accountable for degrees with no career prospects, and requiring an honest earnings estimate before a student signs
• Why she plans to homeschool her own children, and what she says parents give up at the door of a private school
• The Chinese student at Florida Atlantic University who would only speak about the Chinese Communist Party with his face blurred out
• The Cuban American entrepreneurs organizing capital in South Florida to rebuild the island the day it is free
