Blackballed in Two States: The Price of Being a Doctor Who Speaks Up | Dr. John Littell

He keeps a package of the letters institutions mailed him. A medical board called him unprofessional. And he says COVID was not even the worst of it.

Dr. John Littell gets emotional here and says so on camera. He has a sheaf of papers behind him — letters from institutions threatening him one way or another during the pandemic. The one he singles out came from his own specialty board, which he says found him unprofessional for saying the product was one of genetic engineering and for warning that children would be harmed. None of it, he notes, turned out to be unprofessional.

Then he tells Jenny Beth Martin the part most people have never heard: he had been through worse, thirty years earlier, and for the same reason.

Out of the military he went to a small town in northeastern Montana with the National Health Service Corps. He was labeled an impaired provider because he was, in their words, too zealous. A representative of the state medical board came to town and staged what amounted to an intervention, and told him: you think you're the savior of this town? Get off the cross, we need the wood. What he says was actually going on was corruption among the people running the hospital, and a pro-life Christian physician they did not want.

He landed in Hillsdale, Michigan, living in two bedrooms of his brother-in-law's house with his wife and three children, and built a busy practice. They would not let him deliver babies. They convened a meeting over his making house calls and told him he needed other doctors' permission to see their patients. He was entered into the National Practitioner Data Bank.

By 1997 he had nowhere to work. Two pro-life physicians in Kissimmee wrote the letters that got him a Florida license.
