Jenny Beth Martin asks the question under the whole hour: how do we show young people the problems socialism creates before they choose it? Driena Sixto answers from the money side, and not the way you expect.
Part of it is that the very young have not been in the workforce yet and have not felt what government takes.
The ones who do not are the ones led astray early. They were told to go to college, get a degree, and take as much as you need in student loans. They graduate with a huge burden shackled to their foot, and the only thing that looks like it can take that shackle off is what the socialists are selling: we will eliminate your student loan debt, we will make things affordable, we will give you universal health care.
So her fix starts upstream. Abolish the Department of Education. Get rid of federal student loans and federal student grants, so that what universities charge makes sense again. The only reason they could charge these prices is that they had every incentive to, and she puts a number on it: tuition has outrun inflation by roughly five times over fifty years, which is not normal. Then hold the schools accountable. Require them to give every student a truthful assessment of what they would make in the career they choose, and stop letting them hand out degrees with no career prospects.
She closes on where the argument has to be made: get to them as young as possible and be on the platforms they use. Republicans were anti-TikTok for a long time, then realized kids like their news in short clips. Adapt and overcome.
