The Taliban knew the American government was weak, George Glezmann tells Jenny Beth Martin, and they said so to his face. Ministers would come to his cell, point at him and say, look at you, you're here, and they're not doing anything for you. That is why he says it matters who we elect.
George Taylor saw the same weakness from inside the White House. In one meeting, with Glezmann in bad shape physically and mentally, a senior lawyer on the president's staff told Taylor and Glezmann's wife that if George died in custody they would do everything they could to retrieve his body. Taylor's answer: hold it, time out. We want him back alive. To hear that said to a spouse on the grounds of the White House, he says, tells you the government was broken, and they broke it.
Then the reunion. Glezmann flew into Andrews on a small medical jet to find media and officials waiting, but not his wife, who was still being flown in from overseas. They cleared the tarmac, the police lights came around the corner, a black vehicle pulled up, and there she was. Being home, he says, was that hug.
Jenny Beth Martin closes with the point of the whole hour: she shudders to think what would have happened if voters had not made common sense decisions last election, and if they do not again this election. Terrorists are paying attention to how we vote. They can tell whether the American people are serious about our safety, and that has to be on our minds when we cast our ballots.
