The House came back to Washington this week, and the plan is a stopgap that funds the government to December 11 under suspension of the rules, with no amendments allowed. What is not moving is the reconciliation blueprint the House already passed in July, the one carrying ten billion dollars to administer the SAVE America Act, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. Majority Leader John Thune has said he will hold reconciliation until the funding question is settled, and the Senate is not even in town until September 14.
Jenny Beth Martin explains where that bill came from in the first place: a coalition conference call with Senator Mike Lee in January 2024, Cleta Mitchell describing what was happening in Arizona, and the two-ballot workaround Arizona still runs today, where a voter who does not show proof of citizenship still gets to vote for president, Senate, and Congress.
Then the hour turns to big-government socialism, which is no longer confined to one state. Two self-described socialists are now major-party nominees for the United States Senate. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has rejoined the Democratic Socialists of America. And that organization's own written platform calls for abolishing the United States Senate, the police, and the prison system.
