Senate Republican leadership has shelved the SAVE America Act, the election integrity bill that requires documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, photo ID at the ballot box, and ongoing voter-roll cleanup. 83% of Americans support these common-sense reforms regardless of political affiliation.
In this segment, Cleta Mitchell, founder and chairman of the Election Integrity Network, founder of the Fair Elections Fund, and senior legal fellow at the Conservative Partnership Institute, joins Jenny Beth Martin to explain exactly what happened on the Senate floor. Cleta walks through why Senator John Thune refused to call a real talking filibuster that would force Democrats to publicly defend their opposition. She explains why Senate Republicans will not overturn the 1986 parliamentarian ruling that lets a minority block freestanding legislation, and why grassroots conservatives must now pivot to the House.
The new strategy: pressure House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer to attach the SAVE America Act, or its key provisions, to must-pass legislation the Senate cannot avoid voting on.
