Somebody shared a job posting with Victoria Manning of Restoration News. It was for campaign door knockers, working to get out the vote for Democrats, and it specifically encouraged people with a criminal record to apply. She started pulling the thread.
The third party organization behind it was also posting those jobs to a site called undocuprofessionals.net. Manning describes it as essentially a LinkedIn for illegal aliens. The founder, she says, came to this country illegally and was able to stay as a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, finished college here, earned a graduate degree, and then built the site.
Here is the mechanism. The listings are contract work that does not require a Social Security number. An applicant uses a tax identification number instead. That number lets a person report and pay income tax to the federal government. It does not confer legal status and it is not a work permit.
Federal law, 8 U.S.C. 1324a, makes it unlawful to knowingly hire, recruit, or refer for a fee an unauthorized worker, and it carries prison time. Manning's explanation for how the site survived is short: the business is set up in California, and for years there was no enforcement of any of this at the federal level.
She published on Monday. By the time she looked again, much of the site had been scrubbed. She had already saved screenshots of every company that had advertised there, and she has sent what she has to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice.
It goes further than one site. Manning says she has found dozens of colleges and universities referring students to it. Cornell Law School appears on the sponsor page for the group's 2026 conference, a listing she notes was not there when she first published.
And then the part that starts as a policy story and ends as a safety story. Manning's first reaction to the door knocking listing was not about immigration at all. It was that you would be sending people with criminal records to stand on strangers' porches, with a clear view of the inside of the house.
