The so-called Dignity Act, led by Congresswoman Maria Salazar of Florida and now backed by 20 House Republicans, is being marketed as anything but amnesty. Rosemary Jenks of the Immigration Accountability Project says that's a lie — and walks through every layer of amnesty hidden in the bill.
Direct path to citizenship for roughly 2.5 million so-called dreamers (a population well beyond DACA). Amnesty for roughly 10 million more illegal aliens claimed to have entered before Joe Biden took office. A rolling marriage-fraud amnesty for any illegal alien who marries — or pays to marry — a U.S. citizen. Employer amnesty for everyone who hired illegal labor. And a sensitive-locations provision that would block ICE from operating in or near schools, hospitals, courthouses, jails, churches, and parades. The bill even waives unlawful voting.
Jenks explains why donor money and the Chamber of Commerce-backed American Immigration Business Coalition — representing roughly 1,700 large employers — are driving 20 Republicans into a position the conservative base never voted for.
