Ashley Hayek had a close look inside the Department of Justice in late 2025 and early 2026, and the thing that stayed with her was the protests. ICE Out. No Kings. Different names, same shape. She wanted to know a simple thing: are these organic?
Her team started digging and found a recruitment operation. One of the groups running it is the Sunrise Movement, which does ground game work for socialist candidates and supports Democratic Socialists of America and Party for Socialism and Liberation candidates. It recruits young people through whatever door is open, and the doors are pro Palestine organizing, anti capitalism, environmentalism, and opposition to immigration enforcement, all of it pointed at the same target.
Then it got personal. Her daughter, who goes to a private school, came home with a flyer for an ICE Out rally, one of the rallies the country was told students organized themselves. Her team scraped the data off the graphic. It was built by two Washington DC public school teachers.
That was one flyer. The Los Angeles protest outside White Memorial Hospital was led by a Los Angeles Unified School District teacher. The high school walkouts in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and Austin were the same. And the organizers were not only teachers. They co chair their Democratic Socialists of America or No Kings chapter, and they sit on the board of the American Federation of Teachers. Principals. Civics teachers. The people who are with your children every single day.
