Early voting is under way and the people who decide this election are already in your phone. Jenny Beth Martin goes solo for a working session, not a panel, and walks through the two ways you can help get out the vote before November 3. First, the texting system at TPP.me/text, where you sign up in five minutes and press Send to reach voters who turn out for president but skip the midterms. Then the rest of the hour on Friends Help Friends Vote, the relational organizing program of Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund, and the Numinar app that checks your contacts against the voter file and shows you which of your own friends and family still need to vote.
Host: Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Tea Party movement and Chairman of Tea Party Patriots Action. Solo training episode, no guests.
Today's topics:
• TPP.me/text, step by step: sign up with your name, email, cell number, and zip code, wait for the approval email, press Send on a prefilled text, and the next voter loads
• When a voter replies, the team answers on the back end, so every voter gets a real conversation
• Do it in the carpool line, the grocery line, or while you wait for the doors to open at a rally
• Politico, 2022: Jon Ossoff's campaign hired about 2,800 Georgians to reach their own friends and family and raised turnout nearly 4 points among the 160,000 voters it targeted
• Ossoff won by 1.2 points and Raphael Warnock by 2.1, and those two runoffs handed Democrats the Senate
• The research: in a 2008 experiment with 287,000 voters, a generic please-vote reminder did nothing, and asking for a plan to vote raised turnout about 4 points
• The three questions: what time will you vote, how will you get there, and what is your backup plan
• The wet sponge: reliable voters, the ground-game squeeze, and the last squeeze from friends and family that decides close races
• Numinar setup: download from the App Store or Google Play, sign up with your email, confirm it, and join the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund Nationwide workspace (Georgia and Wisconsin have their own)
• The step where most people quit, contact permission, and the honest answer: your list is only matched against the voter file, nothing is stored or shared, and no one on staff can see it
• Help Your Friends Vote versus Help Your Neighbors Vote, and why this training is about the friends
• The target list is preloaded with conservative-leaning voters who have not voted yet, and names roll off about 36 hours after they cast a ballot
• What to text your dad, what to text a college friend worried about the rise of socialism, and how the follow-up changes for mail, early, and Election Day voters
• When a friend is voting for the other candidate: thank them, do not argue, and never burn a relationship over one ballot
• The survey screen: record each friend's plan, save it half finished, and come back to it later
• Troubleshooting: zero matches, the wrong workspace, password resets, support@teapartypatriots.org, and the Numinar help center
• Share the Tea Party Patriots Action ad at teapartypatriots.org/socialism, especially with friends 50 and older who remember what communism looks like
