Dr. Brian Tyson runs All Valley Urgent Care in Imperial County, California, three locations on the southern border. He has practiced medicine for more than twenty years and previously worked as an emergency room physician and an intensive care unit attending. When his county became the epicenter of Southern California's outbreak, he did what he says almost nobody else was willing to do: he saw patients face to face. Outdoor test-and-treat centers in the parking lot. Three to four hundred patients a day. Monoclonal antibodies, budesonide, oxygen, intravenous fluids, anti-inflammatories, and repurposed drugs, with every patient brought back every three days so he could see whether the treatment was working.
He stopped counting at roughly 19,700 patients. He says the first 1,800 told him everything he needed to know about starting treatment before day seven of illness.
